Alloy pipe fabrications

Post by MarkB » Mon Oct 15, 2007 2:46 pm

Anyone have any good contacts for alloy pipe fabrications?

Looking to get some metal replacements for the standard plastic bi-pipes on the B5 S4.

Reason for not just going down the APR bi-pipe route is because I'm wanting to make the connection at the intercooler end larger for use with RS4 intercoolers.

I might also look at the pipes being round across the front of the engine but this will mean removing the viscous fan and replacing it with electric.

Comments?

or why not have 2 pipes merge into 1 like the bi-pipe but have it fixed in place with a samco type hose..but have enough metal for the sensor just before it goes into the hose..
i did see an S4 or RS4 with only 1 pipe going to the throttle body..it went over the top of the rad and into an FMIC..

they make the best radiators ive ever seen..and yes they can make intercoolers too..
they could make you a nice FMIC with an outlet on the top to take the 1 pipe from the throttle body..
they could even make of modify your rad to allow the pipe to go past it..
that was what i was thinking of having done..me and russell discussed it in lengh before i sold the car..

Yes I remember you talking about it.

I don't want to go that far but also don't see the APR bi-pipe and APR hoses as good value so I'm looking at another route.

Plan to use Samco TBB and either the RS4 intercooler flexi pipes or some Samco pipes.

Thanks

then why not get a set of RS4 pipes and a throttle body and have either a sleeve made to fit it to the smaller S4 thottle body or just upgrade to an RS4 inlet mani, throttle body with boot and pipes..

That was an option I thought about but they are also prone to leaks and expensive.

The only thing I have against the plastic pipes is that they become detached from the timing belt covers and aren't the same size inlets as the RS4 outlets.

Once I have some pipes to measure I start looking at getting some quotes... Any ideas what sort of money 2 ali replacement pipes are likely to cost?

Interesting thread. Keeping an eye on this one now - if there's a discuont for having several made, I'll give serious through to it - I'm on the looking for the mandatory upgrades at the moment...

Would you be wanting them to fit RS4 intercoolers or standard?

It would help if we could get a group together

i think the best thing would be is to get a set made and see how the fit compare to the plastic pipes or bi-pipe..then maybe go for the group buy option..
