Need some turbos for my upgrade.
Depending on prices, I need to make a decision on what to go for.
Also if hybrids , turbo builder needs to be good!!!!
Any advice on good warranty / good prices will be much appreciated.
Thank you

Guy on Audiworld selling K04s for $2100ish, take advantage of the weak dollar/strong pound. I bought a set there (same guy afaik), were fine.
Appear on eBay.com too.

I would buy from whoever is fitting them given the cost of the engine pull.

PM Doug. Hell have the best idea.
Also depends what mods you want done. Im tryign to find out cost of hybrids against K04 but not sure if turbo builder canbe trusted as not sure who they are and no one who has hybrids apprears to have dealt with the bloke on ebay.
A friend of mine is doing the engine pull. But I do see your point Graham. I was goign to get some hybrids my friend has had for sale, but turbo builder Jacob has gone missing, so unfortunately Im stuck with having to get some K04's. UnlessI can find someone reputable that does hybrids at a reasonable price.
Ill check the audiworld posts. Thanks

I bought my K04's new from the tuner that did the upgrade for that reason. The risk of what could go wrong was not worth it for me, even though it cost me money. There was a horror story later with the K04's that were being sold 'new' on one of the forums, so for once, I got lucky there.

I'd say that Jacob gone missing is a good thing for you. His hybrids had a high rate of failure.

That's the sort of post you normally answer Saf! Just get some K04s on the car and enjoy!

I just am very confused. Minhea's car runs 500 brake on plain Jane K04's. Ive been told hybrids are good for the same and not more. And the turbo companies state K04's are good for 450 brake. Not sure what to believe.
I went itno a hybrid car running approx 470 brake - not sure about torque figues, and I loved the way it held boost hard and strong up to the red line. I think 1.7 bar with 1.5 at redline. Nice torque all the through the rev band, but I guess that had to do with tuning as well.
I havent been in a tuned K04 car with compression drop with same mods to compare.
I guess it should be pretty similar. Im a little scared from what ive read over at audi world, about the hybrids failure rate in general.
So I will take your advice Graham and just order the K04's. Do the compression drop. Then enjoy. At least ill have peace of mind with reliability.

I agree with GrahamS4. Will it be quicker with K04s?, yeah. Will it be enough to make you laugh your head off? Certainly, for a while at least.

Mihnea's weren't 'plain jane'. They were ported and clearanced. Makes a big difference.

Absolutely second that: - the liability is on the tuner if anything goes wrong and the engine needs to be pulled again - i.e. you don't foot the bill for the re-pull if the turbos are duff ( because the tuner supplied them!) - you may pay a little premium for buying them through a tuner - but it's worth it!

This is the debate I have often in my head. Even if the labour is my own I won't be going for the cheapest option. I'll want quality and a good guarantee.
If I pay another to do the labour then they can supply the main parts like turbo's and clutch.
