1000 bhp supras and 600 bhp S4s

Post by SonicDeathMonkey » Fri Aug 31, 2007 10:00 pm

How come some idiots put a big single turbo in a 3,000cc supra and get 1,000 bhp but spend a fortune on a 2,700cc audi lump and only get approx 600 bhp?

why is that?

But good god, what a rush for the 300 rpm before the redline when that massive turbo is forcing you toward the horizon!!!!

Hi SonicDeathMonkey, welcome to the friendly forum.

Just to clarify, is it one idiot spending a fortune on putting a single big turbo on a 3,000 supra lump and getting 1,000 bhp and spending a fortune on a 2,700 audi lump and only getting approximately 600 bhp? Or is it one idiot modifying the supra and one the audi, or is there just one idiot and he's the one spending a fortune getting 600 bhp out of the Audi lump? Sorry for being thick.
Mike

Good god, too much punctuation. I am on the cava now, so it's a bit much

Some clown with more money than sense and a 1,000 bhp supra.

one clown with not as much money and a S4. he is skint because he spent all his dough on his 600 bhp.

supra has 300cc more and 400bhp more. how come?

If you're not happy, you can always buy a Supra IMHO... and I don't mean to be thick or rude.

I've seen tuning sites in the US that sell a 1200Bhp conversion kit for the Supra, and at a fraction of the cost of doing similar instanity on an Audi. 1200Bhp Supra - STANDING 1/4 MILE 8.6 SECS @ 159 MPH to give you an idea.

A quick google gives:
1050 Bhp kit http://www.suprastore.com/stag7upkit10.html $10,399 - bargain!
1325 Bhp kit http://www.suprastore.com/stag8upkit12.html $29,900
1500 Bhp kit ...

The big advantage of the Supra, to be fair to it, is the fact that the engine is an inline 6 cylinder, which is one of the best naturally balanced engines as far as I know (together with 90 degree V8s), and also the fact that Supra bottom ends seem to be bomb-proof, i.e. no need to even touch internals before at least 800 crank HP.

On the other hand, the 1325 BHP kit seems to be a stroker 3.4 liter kit (thus cheating on capacity).

Having said all this, I'm sure these kits produce this sort of numbers on leaded cheat juice ala C16 (120 RON) and so on, where no one goes in Europe because of the prohibitive cost.

Also, it's not only S4s that cost a lot to get power out of, how many 1000 crank BHP 996 turbos have you guys heard about so far? I've only heard about 1 or 2, and if you look at Sportec for instance, the highest they get is around 820 crank (which is still respectable by all means), and that's out of a 3.8l engine...

It's all in the eye of the beholder...

I think 9ff get close with the 997, but I'd had to think of the cost and the parts list is very long!

Keep seeing a Supra with a super dragger style exhaust on it around my way but he is never heading towards any decent roads to see what he has got.

They have a big engine bay with lots of space for big turbos , There are 1000's of them with 1000's of people spending £1000's of pounds & 1000's of hours developing the engines & cars.

have a look for "Top Secret" in Japan they do 1200bhp skylines. the owner Mr Nagata was caught doing about 190mph on the A1, he tells you that on the "Beasts from the East" video, he then does 200 mph through a tunnel in Tokyo!!!

Must confess I have considered getting me a Supra in the past. I used to see one regularly on the M1 southbound when working in Derby. It sounded like a 747 - turbo must have been massive. It was also tastefully modded externally for a Jap fighter.

Audi /supra

Post by quattrosteph » Sun Sep 02, 2007 3:28 am

to choose i go for the 600 bhp audi !! Because nicely tuned by a professional it will still be lovely to use everyday. Supra with over 1000bhp = good on the straight 100 % but when come the bends......and for everyday it must be horrible to drive, it does look horrible anyway, sorry!!!! :?

My point is you can do much more with a 600 bhp Audi, it will still be reliable, safe, and can carry 5 people !!

600 BHP Audi S4 will look like a nice A4.....1000BHP Supra will look like Fast & Furious meets Halfrauds, not to my taste.
