Tuning the B7

Post by VARSITY » Sun Jul 15, 2007 12:08 pm

Other than the infamous DMS, who else offers tuning for the B7?

Has anyone encountered and have an opinion on these other tuners?

What else is available other than a reflash?

Please, do not mention DMS, its been done to death now.

Have looked at USA and there are a few tuners looking to turbo the car but nothing concrete yet.

Varsity, no point in going there.

My Real World Gains thread has been deleted. Says it all.

Bottom line...... there are no gains to be had through the ECU mod only.

If I could find a nice one I would.

Wouldn't get rid of the B7 though, it has to be the best everyday car a man could buy.

Just want to improve it, as you know its not as easy to tune or improve as the mighty B5.

Just play along, lets get some genuine info on here and move on from the boring DMS debate, however that said there are no other threads or info on here bar them and MTM's S/C?????

Dinan
QST
MRC
ABT
AMD (BBT)
Revo
Khan
Etc Etc Etc

There must be other RS owners who have been tuned?

Just on the point Lee, you may have hit a nerve, dont want to get of the topic but, considering that this is a the most used S and RS forum here in the UK, correct me if I am wrong. There doesn't seem to be many tuners that support or advertise on the site. Whilst it is a private site and not run for profit, again correct me if required. It seems a tad strange that not many tuners are here to support or advertise. In fact just the 1 tuner?

Just a thought, back to the questions at hand please.

See questions above.

That's funny. Were you asleep on Tuesday??

"no gains to be had through the ECU mod only", what other mods have the Paul's & Simon had done other than the ECU??. No gains that you're happy with would be a far more realistic statement me thinks

On Topic & no mention of **S, i believe MRC either have or are developing a B7 map, i know MTM have one, but don't know of any other UK tuners advertising a B7 RS4 map.

Also, another tuner is contemplating advertising or sponsoring this forum 8)

John, i can't see the RS4 listed. They have a V8 4.2 listed under the A6, but nothing under A4.

Also some poor stats for the Bimmer Diesels, as most tuners can get far more from than those this company are claiming.

Guys, please keep this to the topic and questions as of the start. I am sick to death with DMS BS now, as I am sure alot of people are, even the B5 guys are wading in with their comments.

The next one to mention DMS will be in the chair for the beer tab in Sept at the Ring, and you know you do want that bill!

C'mon, lets have some positive contributions, please.

Its a shame t_urbo's original thread on the subject was deleted (of course, that has nothing to do with the fact that I spent ages writing a reply!) because it would be fantastic if some tuners with no axe to grind one way or the other actually came onboard and told us what they do and how they achieve their results.

This has nothing to do with wanting to be in possession of their proprietary information (I'm an airline pilot FWIW!) but everything to do with inspiring confidence in their processes before they go to work on an expensive asset.

Being a former S2 owner I've got lots of interest in MRC.

I thought the Dinan link was a honest assessment from one of the leading BMW tuners around and carried some kudos for me. I particularly liked Steve Dinan's admission that:
And in the case of performance engine management software for later model cars, we seem to be the only BMW tuner that has come to grips with the fact that there is simply no horsepower to be gained from engine management tuning alone.
I'll defer to the wizards though...

I've just had a sneeky look at the German RS246 site for links to tuners, not much going on there.
