S4 Ecu Flash
S4 Ecu Flash
At openecu.org alot of work is being done to flash scooby & mitsu evos through open source programs. The ability to do this on S4/RS4 would be amazing. I have made a post on openecu for this application and any info or support on this forum would be appreciated.

I have found that this car uses ME 7.0 Motronic with electronic throttle control. I believe the ECU to be Bosch EDC E16. If this is incorrect please let me know.
if you have any rom dumps please post

Great, EDC16 ME7.0, loads of wrong information you got there. Please leave this stuff to people who know what they're doing if you don't want to spend 3 grand for a new engine or 600 for a new ECU.
Open source stuff is great but I just don't think it's right for our type of cars.
Thanks!

lol @ great.
KKK turbos and engines are easily vapourised.
Id love to mess about with it too, but I know anyone that has a go is most likely to kill their engine. I wouldnt risk it. I looked into it, and wanted to mees around with the coding, but its very very very very confusing and theres so much info to learn to be able to do it properly. Also Ive noticed most of the stuff required to study this is in German.
No idea how to speak German.
All I know is vorsprung Durch Technik (probably spelt incorrectly at that). And leave it to the pros. Theyve dedicated the time to knowing how NOT to blow your engine.

in the us there are few places i would trust, epl being one. Im sure with some of my friends we could work something out. Ive seen scoobys run beautiful with that software, the development for our application is the goal.

Good luck to you guys, but if I were you, I'd buy a few spare engines before starting...b5s4tt wrote:in the us there are few places i would trust, epl being one. Is that the sound of your arse twitching S2Tuner?
Open source Audi mapping project sounds like a great idea to me and I'd be happy to contribute....

I'd suggest that's it's a voice of experiance talking, rather than anything else as people tend to get the hump when they get told 'I did warn you of the consequence's' when it all goes wrong and your left with an engine bleeding oil all over the road / drive

This sounds like a lot of fun to be had, but that the startig costs and the failure costs are incredibly high. I know a friend of mine has been looking at it with her Nissan 200 SX, and that the output gains can be impressive. However, as I've said, the cost of failure and, therefore, learning is way too high for me to even contemplate getting in to it. As to who I'd trust with my remaps? I'm not even sure there's anyone besides S2tuner on the list.
I would, however, love to know more about it. I love engineering and I both write software for a living, and spend a lot time fixing lot of other people's code. Telling me there's a control box with software, labelled "HERE BE DRAGONS" is just not fair - I WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON! When MRC do my new exhaust in the second half of this year (this, being news to them), then I'll be getting a new map too, and asking lots of questions at the time, I'd even submit to signing an NDA to both ask and get more detailed answers.
Of course, OpenECU then gives me an interesting ethical issue - I would love to work on it, becuase it's interesting and new, but I wouldn't work on it if Minhea answers my questions when I go for my map - it's not right to open source someone else's intellectual property they're making income from, no matter how small the market. On the other hand, I'm not certain how easily I can get started without Minhea answering my questions. And I so loathe living in ingorance.
I believe I'll probably be asking questions, and not working on OpenECU, but probably reading it for educational interest from time to time. There's no way I'd put it on my car until lots and lots and lots of people use it in production.
EDIT: Just looked at their website. There's not a lot there, is there?

Since when has Bosch made their ECU technology open source?
Take a look at megasquirt if you are interested in a genuine open source ECU. Not suitable for replacing our ECUs but a genuinely open source project. I have several friends running mega squirt converted cars and it is a good system. If I ever wanted an aftermarket ECU it is the one I'd look at.

Surprised and rather disappointed by responses to this lust for learning / experimentation, am I to presume that this knowledge is entirely proprietary or did we all not learn from someone else?
We are after all not the founding Fathers of technology mere students who pass along the way however expert we may presume to be.
Discussed this very topic with a mate of mine who is a Bosch Motronic expert and he concurred off the record that this is not rocket science or do people on this Forum consider it to be just so?
‘Homebrew’ as are cousins over the water refer to it is not very sophisticated at the moment however it will progress and IMHO only fools stand in the way of progress.
With reference to Minhea’s comments I can understand that he can imagine engines going bang all over the place however this has been and will remain to be the entire history of engine development / tuning.
And as he says it would probably be very handy for them to have a spare engine however my hat is off to those that have the balls to have a go.

It is amazing how things move on.
I think by the very nature of the beast ( Humans ) we need to play. even if the likes of open ecu and the like become audi friendly prob only a few people will have the b4lls to try it.
It is still prob easier and cheap enough to flash the VAG group but for the like of Scooby and Evos it does away with the need for piggy back ecus.
Lets face it you can get a good map for around £250 to £350 depending on the car so no point destroying your engine or ecu.
i would not recommend those trials they are a pain if you want the car mapped by someone else later. They do not go completly back to standard and they leave software on the EEPROM and EPROM.
