B5 S4 exhaust/cat upgrade - with a difference?!

Post by GrahamS4 » Mon Apr 02, 2007 11:31 am

Got the bug for maximising as much power out of the car as I can now and started thinking exhaust as it seems the be the step everyone takes either before or after tehy go for a remap.

Now from what I have read on stage one car (remap and catback) the catback doesn't realease much power but does make the car breath better at higher rpms. Correct?

Now for the curveball. As the power increase is not anything to shout about, I am not really prepared to have any additional noise, not more than a marginal change anway. For me, it would spoil the sleeper attribute fo the car for little gain.

So - thinking custom, do you think it is possible to build a larger bore, better flowing exhaust to more or less the noise level of the original is is this just impossible? Would the silencing required to quieten down a larger bore exhaust kill the flow?

How about keeping the system stock and swapping the stock 400cpi cats out with 200 or maybe even 100cpi cats (having lost the precats at the same time)?

Could RS4 downpipes and cats (200CPI I think) be mated to the middle and rear stock S4 pipe?

See where I am going with these ideas?

Any other ideas along the same lines?

Yes the RS4 downpipes main cat is 200CPI

I've just started a thread http://rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB ... 384#171384 that I'm going to be fitting RS4 downpipes and intercooolers to mine in the next month or so.

The 3" Milltek I have is louder than standard but not by much. I'll give more feedback to noise with the better breathing cats when they are done.
