Oil - 0w30 or 5w30

Guys,

Just going to do an oil change, I notice that it currently has Castrol Edge 0w30 in at the moment, I tried to get 5w30 (but being the Isle of man, i'd be lucky to get what I wanted!) so they only had 0w30.

I bought that, but, should I hold off and get some 5w30 from the UK ????

Whats the main difference in using these two different oils? I do drive the car hard, if this needs to be taken into consideration ... oh, and its an RS4 engine ...
Cheers

sure oilman will be along soon but 0w40 or 0w50 is better, there are cam wear complaints with 0/5w30, the 0w40 would be better than 5w40 for lubrication of the turbos too. 0w50 would be good if you drive the car hard.

there are some good sticky threads on this topic at the top of the forums, check them out.

LOL, thanks dummi, how could have missed that sticky!!!

So, from reading everything, and your advice, I might swap the oil for 0w40 or 0w50 if I can find it ...

5W40 is a good "all rounder" for our cars

I think a group IV or V 5w40 is probably best for our cars

I've gone my 10w60 as recommended by a good tuner.

Gonna need to be carefull on warm up, but suppost to be very good at high temps ..

Why not 5W60 then?

I did not see that over here (limited options here!), and I was told that its harder to get old of 0w60 (and assume 5w60) because of the greater variation in cold and hot viscosoty.

I've never seen a 0W60 or 5W60

If you are running high power and use if often then 10W60 is going to be good. as has been said though, take it easy when cold as the oil won't flow so well.

I use 5W40 because it's cheap as chips and seems to be the recommended grade. I also don't drive the car that hard so it never gets really hot. I'm also not running big power either

0W40 would be my next choice.

0w60 is huge a viscosity range for a multigrade oil (IMHO).
