Milltek exhaust

I've had my milltek system inc cats for about a year now and it's starting to do my head in! Although the sound outside isn't too bad (i think its a little on the boy racer side) the droning inside the cabin is horrible! I fitted the system as their slogan reads 'blows your mind not your ears' etc and thought it would be quite a stealthy upgrade but i feel i've ruined my S4!
I've contacted Phil Millington who offered a few sugestions, ie revert to the 3 inch system which is supposedly quiter, or to add another box, but i've been told that if i'm to upgrade to k04s i need to leave it as is. I ordered the 'quiet' system (the resonated) but am becoming more and more convinced that the non-resonated has been fitted instead-anyone had similar experiences? I'm sure there must be a code or serial no stamped on it somewhere-off to MRC on the 29th so maybe Doug can come up with some ideas...

I think you can tell resonated or not by the tail pipes. If they are just smooth pipe (internal) then it's non-res. If the pipe is twin wall with a perforated internal you have resonated.

Sounds like i've got non-res (from your description Mark, not just the bl**dy noise!).

Any other decent exhaust up-grades suitable for k04s that don't make your ear drums bleed?

You could get some resonated inserts fitted. Years ago a friend had a system made that was boomy in the mid range. This was solved by adding inserts.

Worth a try maybe??

You can get resonated link pipes for the RS4 - maybe the offer them for the S4?

It is the link pipes that are resonated or not resonated - not the catback. Dual is louder than a single 3" Have you got 100 or 200 cell cats?

Doh, I was wrong.

I stand by the getting inserts though. It can make a big difference

Got the 200CPSI cats (or at least that's what I asked for along with the non-resonated system!)

I meant the resonated system...

You won't get quieter without changing the catback to a 3" single (find someone that wants a louder exhaust and swap the dual for 3")

The resonators in the conecting pipes are perforated tube inserts in them. The Miltek part numbers will be stamped on a plate on the pipes.

Hopefully we can discuss options on Monday Doug...cheers.

I have a 3" single and could be tempted to do the swap. I'd want to hear the dual first though :?

there is also a big difference avant vs. sedan, keep that in mind. My borla is said to be booming in avants, but its very nice in my sedan. low rumble fits me and my family nicely.

Mark your system sounds good, very subtle but with a hint of 'this isn't how it came from the factory'

Mine? I like it but I could live with a little more noise for a little more power ;)
