SHOULD I BE WORRIED

Can anyone put me in the right direction,

1. When i engage gear in my S6 V8 i get a knocking sort of noise. This only happens when the car is warm and i am in gear and stationary. If i take it out of gear and in neutral or park the noise goes. Is it some kind of pump in the gearbox or something else.

2. Also i seem to have a steering rack bracket (one under the battery) coming loose for some unknown reason and causing a loud clicking/clonking noise around the engine bay bulkhead below the battery, when i turn the wheel.
Is this a common fault and should i be aware of any other issues with this model.
Help most appreciated.
