How long should they last before they require changing?

(normal driving, mainly in traffic!)

We change them @ 30k .

I thought I remembered threads of people changing them at 10k!

change normal plugs at 10k ,we change all iridium plugs at 30k as they cost £10-£12 each you don't want to do it at 10k.

Are these a 40k change item according to Audi ?

Iridium - never....the only set of iridium plugs I fitted fell apart in the engine and broke up - fortunately. the same happened in my jetski and a mate here has had the same happen to him, in his 1.8t. He thinks they were iridium plugs.

I'll save my money then, also seems better now the TB has been cleaned
