Porsche 996TT/GT3 brakes

Hi folks have any of you guys got Porsche brakes?

I know you can fit boxter and boxter S (996) calipers but I have seen on a website BIRA.org that you can fit 996TT/GT3 calipers.

Has anyone done this? If so where did you get the caliper carriers and discs?

i have porsche cayenne fronts..ECS stage 4 i believe..grt stopping power..

Cool!! Will look the muts nuts.

I dont want to go as big as that as I want to still be able to run 17s and wanted to make sure the brake master cylinder would be able to cope.

Ahh. I have gathered some info as looking for something half heartedly myself. To fit under 17's, I think early GT3 brakes were 4 pot not 6 and I have been told can be made to fit. You need custom brackets.

like woody, i went for the ECS stage 4 brakes, black calipers, slotted discs only.

their kit comes with everything you need. i did a fair bit of research before buying, and it seemed to me that ECS had done the most research with regard to keeping the brake balance correct between front and rear etc, plus worked out the cheapest overall, about £1450 ish, but i bought them from JB tuning in the uk. had to wait a while for ECS to manufacture them, but it worked out cheaper than trying to buy them from the states and taking the risk on import duty etc.

i've got a noggy blue car, and went for the black porsche 6 pot calipers. you do need 18 inch wheels though.

its now got awesome stopping power.

Yeah I can fit boxter or boxter s (same as 996) calipers. Or the 996 gt3 ones.

I found this out by looking at BIRA.org But wondered where I could get the discs and carriers.

Think i will have to pay the $20 membership to BIRA to find out.

I'm running a set of Porsche 993T brakes on the front of my S4 (under 18" BBS wheels). Whole set including adaptor brackets, 4-pot callipers, discs and pads from AMD in Bicester is £1500+. Look the part, stop the car like you wouldn't believe but at high speed you can get juddering under very firm braking.

The minute you start looking at calipers you are over £500 before getting new discs.

Calipers - a few hundred
Pads - a few hundred
brakets - a few hundred

IMO the cheapest good upgrade is B5 RS4 brakes and 18's and some lower springs. You should be able to do all that for under £1200 if you shop around.

If labour is required to fit then it will probably be another couple of hundred on top of that but you'd need to pay for that anyway with any upgrade.

if you are looking for Gt3 btakes, they often come up on ebay,,,for trackwork,,,they are not too clever and many owners uprade to the 6 pots from the mk2......pads are £180-200...........where as big reds from the 996TT/RS, you can buy standard compound pads from eurocarparts for £75-80.......I know which i would fit

Yeah I have just bought GT3 calipers of ebay.



Come with pads and if they are worn I will get new ones for £70.

Discs, lines and carriers are all I need now.

David7m - yes, a little concerned. I spoke to the guys at MRC about it when I was there the other week. They said they knew of the issue and had previously had the same problem on one of their S4's. They recommended a swap to an RS6 setup, which wouldn't cost me a lot extra once I'd sold on the Porsche setup. Will give it some thought, back there in a month or so!

Sounds like a good option there ... why did you go for just slotted out of interested? I see they have a drilled and slotted option?

How long have you had them now? everything holding up ok? Do you use them hard? lots of high speed slow downs etc???

went for slotted only as many people seemed to be saying that the drilled ones can often crack. as i planned on keeping the car, i wanted the best long term option on the brakes. i dont mind changing the pads, but i'd like to get as along as possible out of the discs, unitl they genuinly wear out, as oposed to cracking and needing replacement.

the brakes just work. if i push hard on the pedal, they stop quicker, if i push really hard, they stop quicker again. had them fitted for about 2 months and not had any problems.

i went to the ring on my gsxr 750 bike this summer and decided i need to take the car there next year, and so having good brakes is a top priority ...

Well, thats interesting as I currently have the RS4 calipers with Padit yellow pads and managed to crack up two sets of disks so far! So need to get a setup that does not do this!!!
