Gutting standard S3 exhaust

Post by david7m » Wed Jul 19, 2006 12:29 pm

Hi

Are there any performance gains in doing this? I can get a good standard exhaust and wondered if I could cut open the cats etc. and pull the stuff out, then weld back together.....

I presume this will then fail the MOT :(

No Cat....No MoT....car is effectively illegal (all cars registered after 1993 must have a Catalytic Converter) hence no insurance.

There's a few illegal cars on here then with no insurance!

Indeed....since it's a modification that makes the car illegal you can't/wouldn't disclose this to your insurance company (who wouldn't insure you if you did) hence you would make a false insurance declaration and hence have no insurance......As well as producing more pollutants than if you ran a Cat.

If the car is remapped to take into account the less restrictive exhaust then you should see a power gain.

Thanks Jeff, but the auction finished on £50 for the full system :!: and I hesitated as I wasn't sure if a good idea or not......

I think a Milltek or equivalent would surely give better gains and sound better than gutting a standard system??

But for 50quid it's worth finding out.....
