power data..

Post by s4woody » Wed Apr 05, 2006 5:05 pm

well like i said i went and had a dyno session at QSTuning in haywards heath..
i have a DNA/ABT sportsline remap,bipipe,viper dv,s and a milltek duel cat back..

engine power was 311.2 bhp/228.9 kw
wheel power was 198.1 bhp/145.7 kw
drag power was 113.1 bhp/83.2 kw
torque at 4285 rpm was 442.3nm..
now i must admit i thought i,d see a little more than 311 bhp but it goes to show that the standard cats strangle these cars and even with the precats removed(which i aint done yet) you still need to get the gasses out fast..
i think a set of dwn pipes is the next thing on my list then i,ll fit my RS4 ic,s and i,ll have it checked again..
oh and my figures are exactly what my tuner said they would be so atleast that was money well spent..

I'd have though you would have more torque than that,

Don't trust dynos. If it logs right on vagcom and you're happy with it, then that's all that matters.

They do look well down, don't they.

At an rs246 rr day at G-force, Biturbo and I both got just over 200 bhp at the wheels with standard cars.

The drag figure is huge. Usually its c75bhp on B5 S4/RS4 models.

As you and Phil have said though, rr figures are relative to what else runs that day and not necessarily actual figures.

well i must admit im gutted with it on paper but the car fly,s..and 113 bhp drag is huge..but on the bright side these figures give me a bench mark to start from..i was talking some forum members yesterday and they made me feel better about the whole thing and we discussed my next move so i,ll look forward not backward and keep every1 informed of the gains...

It's nothing to worry about mate. That rr that day etc.

A FATS log is a good idea, lots of people post them and there is good info in that thread that will give you sensible comparative data.

Don't forget that engine power and torque are CALCULATED using scaling parameters which may not be correct for your car. For example they don't tend to look at your tyres and make adjustments based on make and condition, but this WILL affect your measurements.

Having said that, 311bhp is a perfectly reasonable peak engine power for stage 1 and just a cat-back. Peak torque does look low though - I'd expect more like 500Nm. I'm not familiar with the ABT remap but I'm sure it is similar to the other popular tuner's remaps.

Since peak power occurs higher up the rev range than peak torque, maybe there is a loss of traction at the higher torque levels. Maybe it is your tyres???

well the figures i have correspond with the exact figures the tuner gave so on that aspect im happy,my tyres are all new and the torque figure was questioned by kim,he did say that his mtm chip would give me 500nm
but with 306 bhp..

Mmmm, both wheel power and torque look quite low to me (however Kim knows his dyno better than anyone else and knows what numbers to expect).

One thought were you running unleaded or super unleaded? I'd expect to see 240 whp and 500 nm from what I have read about ABT chip on super unleaded. From all the dyno plots I've looked at ABT should be slightly higher than MTM for both power and torque.

Wheel slip shows as a jagged line on a dyno plot.

i agree with Dave, your drag is far too high it should be around 75-85ish. Looks like you have a prob with a brake or maybe a soft tyre.

With that figures your car looks standard. 198ATW would be around 275ish ATF

Best to get things checked over. I would have been expecting around 230ish ATW

RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.
F10 M5 LCI still no rear grip lol
S7 black Edition Too big and heavy
S3 8V FL DSG 310ps, road noise is a joke
RS3 8P Rubbish
C7 RS6 Fantastic car but missed playing
GTR R35 800bhp, too extreme, crazy fast though
911 Turbo Remapped. Hated it
F10 M5, awesome but no rear grip
RS6 V10 700BHP crazy
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 600bhp

Didn't the tuner point these things out for you and maybe help and advise on what it might be (if anything) to worry about? Seems pretty lazy to me.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

nothing was pointed out really just the torque being abit low..i do my own mechanics on the car and apart from a wheel bearing starting to make a noise the car freewheels really easily, and i dnt think the brakes are binding..i,ll check that out and post my findings if any..cheers guys for your input.. :jump_clap:
