FMIC Idea

Post by Paulm » Sat Mar 04, 2006 9:13 pm

Anyone thought of buying 2 of these shallow intercoolers and mounting them on the front of the car ( behind the bumper obviously). They would work 1 for each turbo.

It would need to be measured carefully and prob not the one shown, I used it just as an example.

It would mean the left turbo would feed into the right side of the inlet and vice versa for the right turbo. I can't see why this would cause any probs as all the charge air ends up in the same place at the end of the day.

Just a thought :drink:

but if its forced in2 the left inlet and the right inlet wouldnt u get the problem of both boost,s meeting in the middle and causing a sort of back pressure?? just a thought. :redrs4:

But they meet in the middle anyway at that y piece rubber boot that splits all the time. Instead of the left going to the left side of the boot it would go to the right side

Yeah must admit that looks pretty damn smart but for $2650 for cooler, pipes, shipping and fan you have to weight up the cost = power, not that good :(

erm.. lots of pipework so lag in throttle response?
plus the effective size of the FMIC's may be smaller than the effective size of the ones in the wings - that said though the cooler air might make up for it?

He ment 2 small ones on top of each other , one wound feed in at the bottom left & out on the bottom right . The other would feed in top right & out top right . cheaper to use 2 i/c's than one big one . woody , i think that you pic is for a 1.8t a4 . Intercoolers have been coverd before . i've spent several hours on the phone with 'pace' , they should have started on s4/rs4 i/c's in early jan but they were trying to finish off the bmw mini at the time .I'll call them on monday..

Yeah thats what i meant grizz

no prob woody, just thinking out loud really and had a few beers into the bargin.

fade, I dont think there will be a great deal more pipe work. It looks it on my drawing but it is pretty crap really. I read a 40 or 50bhp gain in FMIC, this seems a bit high to me but you never know.

It will be interesting to see what pace come up with

i'm hoping cooling will be greater than lag in pipework, only reason i'm getting fmic is to reduce heat lag hopefully make the car perform more consistent, i will report in a few weeks.
