Replacing Brake Fluid ?

Post by DaveP » Fri Oct 21, 2005 4:52 pm

Hey all,

I need to flush the entire fluid and put some nice Castrol SRF in..

Is it just a case of bleeding it as normal but for an extended time to ensure that all the old fluid is out of the system ?

basically yes Dave but try and syphon etc the old fluid out of the fluid reservior before (but not too much where you end up getting air into the system!)

you're supposed to flush the clutch circuit as well but I never did that!

Thanks bud...I actually did it over the weekend...just bled the fluid through until mostly gone from the reservoir, then filled up with the new good stuff...

Was a piece of pee to be honest!

I used a similar device, only I used too much pressure and nearly blew the reservoir apart!

Did you activate the ABS pump with VAG-COM (or keep the engine running) when you flushed the old fluid out?

Yeah, there seems to be conflicting information about whether this is neccessary.

The manual does mention something about the ABS if you have air trapped...taking it to a dealer etc...but mine was a straight flush through so I think everything is okeydokey...
