what do people think about them, Are they needed on S4's / RS4's?
Would people fit them to there cars?

Prawn had excellent results with his IIRC.
I would not do it because I don't like the look. Just a personal thing.

Got one on my Punto, wouldn't do it again without first driving a modified car. Problem with FMIC is the reduction in cooling ability caused by the radiator being obscured. Sustained boost in the Punto causes high coolant temparatures.
I'd be more tempted to go with custom side mount I/Cs like the AWE units. So far the RS4 units appear to be holding up well and heat soak isn't a major concern. You could also spray the IC/s with a mist from your aquamist to reduce heatsoaking.
Some drag strips will not let you do this (Santa pod tend to remove cars with water dripping from the start line).

Personally I'd go with something like the side mount AWE's, they seem to have a decent technical grounding & apparently work very well.

From running the RS4 IC's now for some time, Am finding that they Could be better. Aquamist 2D water injection kit is helping the problem, Comes in at 10psi and you can just watch the charge temp drop on VAG-COM. its just heat soak before.

I've made tentative enquiries into both the AWE uprated side mounts, and the DUH FMIC...
Forge have stated that they will not develop a FMIC for the S4.
I would be interested if someone is able to sort the logistics, so its just a question of me handing over a wad of cash....
me? lazy? surely not!

Spoke to Forge last year, they gave me the run around for a couple of months, Been speaking to Pace Products the last 5 weeks, they sound interested in doing a FMIC for the S4 / RS4.
Looked a another company now too. Will have something before the end of the year hopefully

Pace look like a good outfit. Their charge coolers look interesting. Not sure we have the space though.

Brett,
If you are interested in going ahead with this I can also recommend another company that make one off intercoolers and radiators. Your'll also know roughly where they are seeing as you have been to Sanspeed in Bexleyheath IIRC?
Brise are in Dartford and make a lot of stuff for race cars/kit cars.
They are happy for you to make up a mould out of wood and drain pipe etc. so you don't have to pay someone else for the designing of the overall size.

This S4 has had a totally stock RS4 engine just dropped in. Along with no cats, dual milltek and the FMIC it does 485bhp and 480 ft-lb. It keeps the intake temps down a lot. It gets thrashed in France and he has not had any problems water temps

I've allso phoned pace about a fmic kit .After getting a poor responce from every body i may build a kit of my own.. I've found several company's that will make the cooler and then i can make the pipe work as i've got a manderal pipe bender . I've just done a fmic on a zafira gsi turbo , good job and gave it a increase in power . I will do a kit for both s4 & rs4 as i've as got both .

ah...interesting..
I emailed VAGTuning/Regal Auto who are listed as the UK importer of AWE stuff....about 6 weeks ago...they replied yesterday (coincidence n'est pas?) saying that they
were moving office, hence the delay...and they've emailed AWE to get more details.
(this would be for the AWE uprated side mounts which AWE claim to perform better than the std RS4 i/cs....so perhaps not enough of an upgrade for those already
running RS4 intercoolers, but good for those who have standard S4 items, who want to stay looking standard.)
will report back if/when I hear more.
