Just after a bit of advice here.....My RS4 was chipped last year with stage111 AMD,it has 473 bhp at the mo.I was thinking of taking it to the next stage which would cost another 9k approx.AMD have told me to expect about 530bhp and more torque.....Has anybody here had this done and could you tell me if its worth paying out that amount of money for the extra grunt??
cheers guys

I would say it's not worth it...but it depends on what you use your car for...
If it were me (and I had the money

) - I'd be looking at :-
a. Brakes (if you haven't done them already)
b. Stasis suspension/poly bushes/control arms to sort the handling.
c. A nice set of light wheels for handling improvement
d. Nice bucket seats to make the thing lighter
e. FMIC (front mounted intercooler)

FMIC, are you kidding, only sportec makes intercoolers for RS4 the once that really work +25 Hp on dyno and they are put in same places. FMIC is a pain in the a.. you now what I am saying

) By the way to put FMIC you will have to cut your bumper from inside and remove the metal inside of the bumper that will soften the front of your car. Big intercooler- big Lag.
And for further tuning I would also say it's not worth it

No I'm not kidding...there are people on here who have had it fitted and had good results.
Big intercooler = big lag?...how do you explain that one then?

Jesus, this is the ignorance itself talking again!!!! Are you intending on always posting replies that are THIS controversial and lacking this much any common sense???
I can't even be bothered giving you a thermodynamics lesson so you understand that big intercooler is not big lag and that it does indeed increase power in identical conditions. Regarding the sportec ICs though, I have heard very different stories TBH...

Dippy - in regard to d) Bucket seats. Do they exist to buy anywhere?
guj - I have stage III at AMD, and think it's more than adequate. 3k grand is one thing, 9k is something else... what do AMD say about stress levels? Are they confident it will last more than 5 minutes?

Hehe...I presume you meant me ?
Yep...Audi did proper bucket seats...TarmacTerrorist has some in his now (from JR's old car) - if you check JohneRoberts's gallery there's some pics...
Those are the official ones (with RS4 logo)...you can of course fit aftermarket Recaros or others...

Does anyone have any details of the Sportech IC's i.e. flow rates, pressure drops etc...
I would like to compare them to the AWE IC's (see link), as I've got a feeling that the AWE product might be significantly cheaper than going Sportec.

Thats what you are talking about?
It’s difficult for me to explain in English, but what I was trying to say was theу value of IC is not only size but the length of the tract and area of section, so if the tract is long (and it is long if you will fit FMIC on RS4) you get more opposition. I am not saying that FMIC is rubbish but it would be wrong to put it on RS4.

Come on I would like to hear a thermodynamics lessons, you will tell me something like - big coolers give more cold air or maybe - you will get much more air when its cold with the same boost
You did not understand what I was talking about (maybe it’s my fault English is my 3-d language), please first ask and then be so critical

i was running mtm stage 3 at 467 bhp and then had FMIC fitted which produced 504 bhp. FMIC works for me!

it is common knowledge that a bigger intercooler is going to take longer to fill, air mass and all that, so this is always going to be a trade off, slightly longer delay in getting full boost, while more effecient cooling of charge will give better combustion..........no lesson in thermodynamics needed

Keep it civil fella

Oh and this really should be in the modded and tuning section which is where it is heading

Now forgive me for asking an innocent question, but why should a bigger intercooler mean it takes longer to get the air into the cylinder? There's never going to be a vacuum in the air intake so air will always be available as instantly as with a smaller intercooler no?
I only ask because even though fluid mechanics was far from my favourite subject at uni, I still followed it briefly. As far as I can see, the only thing that would affect the time to get air into the system is the diameter of the pipes which would affect the volumetric flow rate/pressure needed to maintain flow rate?

In answer to the original post, I think John Roberts has said before it is not worth going the changing turbos route on the RS...
