Motec
Anyone running Motec with K04's? Whats your experience and any advantages or disadvantages over the Motronic system. Am about to have another map done after fitting a new fuel system and am wondering what Motec might bring...

RE: Motec
Pay for a custom remap, cheaper than Motec and gives engine protection safeguards....

RE: Motec
I would stick with your current S4 ecu. the motronic is beter, in the right hands it can be maped to suit. You still are able to read fault codes etc. With Motec you will not.
I hope Motec uk`s Dealer sevice has improved. Product may be ok, Looking at the softwear/programes, I dont belive it to be any better than the cheaper Emerald or DTA.
When I spoke to them requiring some ecus for 5 cylinder and 1.8T conversions. Very unhelpfull, We dont require any dealers etc, you are too small and inexperienced!
So I now use the previous mentioned companys for my aftermarket ecus.
Motecs UK`s loss...........I recon the spend on ecus is iro £11k this year

Phillip,
Have you looked at MegaSquirt, it's an open source ECU project, now has some excellent features couple of mates are using them very successfully, requires some assembly but I hear a few people are building them and selling them out pre built. From what they tell me me it caught up with many of the commercial ECU projects.

RE: Motec
some tuners do not understand all the capabilities of the Motronic unit. Some find it hard to program. The main reason for switching to another ECU is because the tuner cannot get the motronic unit to work the way he wants it to. Usually when replacing the motronic unit with another, a lot of the inbuilt protection features that the motronic unit has are not implemented in the replacement ECU. For a street car it is a good idea to havr the built in protection. Do you want somebody tuning your car who does not properly understand how the ECU functions?

RE: Motec
Thanks for the replies....I will see if I can find some more experiences to properly understand the pros/cons of the Motec system. I have had a chat with a tuner, but didnt fully understand the benefits over the Motronic (if any to justify the extra cost)
At the moment I am struggling to find a tuner who can map my ecu properly for reasonable money, so I may have to go to Europe....(I am in Europe already, but you know what I mean)

RE: Motec
What in particular are you looking for?
What is your budget?
What mods do you have already?
Jabbasports and MRC will do you a custom remap to your requirements, someone mentioned Awesome GTI might have started doing custom remaps.

Re: RE: Motec
To be fair the tuners you mention are primarily VW or 1.8T tuners with the exception of MRC so not experienced enough IMHO (I am certainly not betting my turbos on it!). I might get MRC to do a map if I can get hold of them...mods are in my sig. Budgets are no good in this game IMHO, but I want to be sure I get what I want for my money...
