I've taken the plunge with a stage III.
However I was having a look aroung the Milltek site and came accross this sound file
http://www.millteksport.com//media.file.cfm?fileid=2
Not sure I want my RS4 to sound like I skidded into Halfords, is the sound really offensive?

You really need to go and have a drive around in someones car who has a miltek on for half an hour or so.
Then make up your own mind wether or not you like it/could live with it.....

If its the R32 sound file you are referring too, there are a number of exhaust combinations and they all sound different (eg: louder, quieter, with or without sliencers etc etc)
As far as the RS4 goes the sounds differ depending on whether you have a 200 or 100 (louder) cell Miltek exhaust....but as others have said you need to hear it on a car to make an accurate assessment....

Yup - it was the R32 sound file. Didn't like it at all... Exactly the sort of thing I 'tut' at when I hear it outside my window. I had a listen to an RS4 cat back system and it sounded absolutley fine, but maybe having the 200 cell cats will make a difference to overall noise? I've read a few reviews and all seem to say that there is no offensive noise at all, in fact barely audible above general road noise.
Pretty immaterial anyway, its being done on Friday...

2 cylinders, oh and 15 thousand quid...
Thanks, I hope I like it too. Looking forward to see if there's much difference. Probably wasted on me, I still haven't been over 6000rpm.
Cup of tea anyone?

Well I'm back from AMD. Very pleasant bunch of guys, one has even asked me to join his cricket club when I move up that way. The results are pretty satisfying, headed over to Gloucestershire cross country and despite the weather and a woman sitting next to me, had great fun. Milltek is, if I'm honest too noisy for me at 2,00rpm, but I'll live with it...
Figures are thus:
Power at flywheel STOCK: 386.8BHP @ 6183 rpm
Torque STOCK: 348.8lb ft @ 4346 rpm
Power at flywheel MODIFIED: 465.7 BHP@ 5846rpm
Torque MODIFIED: 443 @ 4745 rpm
Overall - very pleased, I can scan plots if anyone is interested. One thing I did notice was that the modified torque plot is more 'up and down' compared to stock. They began to explain why - Haldex, power shifting from front to rear, perfectly normal plot etc etc as my eyes glazed over...
I think what is as pleasing as anything is the figures at stock. They signified a very healthy car which is always nice to know.
So far so good, and well done AMD. I have to stress that I really chose them over Minhea because of their geographical location, as I'm moving up that way.
Cheers

I'm puzzled -
What do you mean by 'Stock'? And 'at the flywheel' or 'this is what we think your car has stock, but we don't know", or did they put the engine on the brake?
Haldex??????? this is an RS4 we are talking about?
the reliable figures to work with are:
1. measured torque at the wheels before tuning, and thus derived bhp at the wheels.
2. measured torque at the wheels after tuning, and thus derived bhp at the wheels.
anything else is pure supposition.
Ask the guys for the plots corrected only for temperature and humidity, excluding the drive ttrain losses, then you have a sound basis to make comparisons.

Glad you are sorted, figures are not too shabby either......... cars do seem to gain a few BHP over the years, mine was 402 BHP with exhaust and cats......... have to say I find the noise fine, but coming from someone who drove a Ferrari with a Tubi exhaust, the RS is tame

Haldex...oh god...if they really said that then I'm worried.

Maybe someone could tell me what I mean.

Is it correct that you've had a full Milltek exhaust and a remap and you car has gained 79 BHP and 95 lb/ft ? I'd be interested in your Wheel HP before and after.
Haldex is the controller fitted to A3/S3/TT/Golf four wheel drive systems. Your car has a torsen diff (ie proper Quattro). If someone was talking to you about Haldex causing problems on the RR there is something very strange going on.....
