RS4 with a silly idle this morning.
Morning All,
Went to forest of dean yesterday with my son, we have a cottage in Goodrich.
Wife is away skiing, and Joe was messing with me (only 3) so needed some space. Anyway moved his booster seat into the front and we realyly had some fun on the A-roads getting there, car was going really well.
Anyway this morning the car is idling at 100rpm which is really annoying with the exhaust.
Anyone have any ideas what this is. The car hunts a little on start-up goes to 1100rpm which is normal - buit then just stays there even when warm.
Opinions as always are gratefully received.
Thanks,
Tom

RE: RS4 with a silly idle this morning.
Idle control on rs is done by idle stabilisation valve, it is this that will correct idle spped when electrical or power steering loads are applied without throttle. On some models they do have a habbit of sticking a bit, usually with a build up of carbon and burnt oil. Sometimes a clean out with carb cleaner does the trick.
RE: RS4 with a silly idle this morning.
There is no idle stabilisation valve on an RS4 whatsoever as far as I know... the ECU controls idle dynamically by ignition timing and throttle opening...

Might see what it is like today and if still rough, use the SPS3 to gop back to stock for a few days see whether this cures it.

Do you have a ail leak.....Split hose maybe?
You may hear a boost leak.

RE: RS4 with a silly idle this morning.
This could also be caused by a dodgy Throttle valve control unit or the throttle valve itself. If you have vag-com, you could try throttle adaptation to reset this.
in Vag-com, engine electronics, basic settings, value 60 i think.

M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

Going to go out now and check for air leaks. If I can see nothing going to nip uop to a local specialist.
Simon, must get you to teach me, or someone else who has the knowledge the ways of VagCom I always dicuss it but never get it done.
Will update later.

Funny that, I have an invoice for an idle stabilisation valve for mine when it decided to idle at 2800 rpm,S2tuner wrote:There is no idle stabilisation valve on an RS4 whatsoever as far as I know...

having a hugely Toss car & wife day....
3 error codes
1 was ECU correcting engine speed/idle
1 was throttle control valve
1 was someting to do with low battery (mu system causes this to happen a lot)
Also still have an oil leak from the left hand side of the engine and it smokes quite a lot - in fact more than before.
Is going up on the ramps on Friday morning so we can have a proper look. If it is the cam cover gasket again I will have to have a word with Dialynx who replaced it a month or so ago. will report back.
Further more, just decided to sell the bike as well as the wheels as they will not give mne enough cash on their own to get to stage3. Told the wife who immediatelly went off on one about money. Always a great converstaion in any household.
My reasoning, selling the wheels and the NC30 to fund stage 3, should have enough money to fund le mans and her trip to france (whilst me and the lads are at le mans) this way I am not spending any money on the car just selling stuff to fund the upgarde from.
She suggests that as things are tight I should just sell the stuff and keep the money just in case things get worse......... It was a heated discussion to say the least.
She has just returned from 5 days in the dolomites skiing..... I ask you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might need keep the cash for a settlement at this rate............ not a route I recommend I hasten to add
Paying for Stage three will look like a walk in the park compared to that
