Engine management light

Hello,

I've just got an S3 210 bhp and the previous onwer had the REVO 5 hour trial, and the result of this he tells me is to put on the orange engine managment light on the dash ( the one that is shaped like an engine), which is apparently to tell them it has had the free trial, so you can't try it more than once.

Is this correct? and can i get the light put out? or does it require further investigation.

Andrew

No that is not correct.

This needs investigating. You need to get someone with VAG-COM or take it into a dealer to find out what the fault is - Engine Check Light illuminated means you have had a recurring fault which you should get checked ASAP...

Andrew - Had the same thing, although as it transpires it was nothing to do with the trial, but yea, you need to find out what the error code is. I suggest dropping into a REVO dealer and ask them to have a look. Oh and don't drive it hard until you know what the problem is....
Let us know!

Cheers

I'm getting a local guy with a code reader to plug it in tomorrow and see what i comes up with, hopefully it's just as others have had, some kind of hiccup. It runs fine, no obvious signs of anything playing up, so fingers crossed.

Will report back tomorrow.

Right,

I had the fault codes read today and there where 2 on there, the codes where 17511 bank 1, probe 1 heating circuit and 17524 bank 1, probe 1 heating circuit, both reading as a malfunction.

Had codes cleared and light went out.

The fault codes mean:

17511 bank 1, probe 1 reading too low

17524 bank 1, probe 1 open circuit

I assume these mean the oxygen sensors in the exhaust, but does anyone know which one is probe 1?

Andrew

Oh yeah and the light came back on again on the way home...... :(

Appears to be the lambda sensor - S1 normally means the sensor on the exhaust manifold, S2 would mean the second post cat sensor. Yours says probe 1 - do you have an older S3 as mine is an 02 reg car and says S1/S2 - i guess probe 1 means the first one

I think a new sensor is about £80 quid from vag parts, assuming that is what is needed...

Hi Dunc,

I reckon it's had it, cos the code reader said "mulfunction" and it put the light on pretty soon after re-setting it.

Will have to check connections etc.

Cheers

Thats the wide band O2 sensor. May have got destroyed during running higher boost during your trial. These sensor are just starting to fail on some of the S3's and other cars that use them.

Good news, new O2 sensor fitted this morning and codes reset, and light is now out!

It seems to be running better as well, hopefully better fuel consumption too.
