MRC Tuning - Mihnea

Post by ShaneyB » Wed Mar 09, 2005 3:49 pm

Hi All,
Just got off the phone to Tom Coppings (Robert Coppings Motors) regarding the ECU upgrades and custom upgrades Mihnea has been doing in the UK and Belgium. Tom is now heavily partnered with Mihnea and appears to have a fantastic knowledge of our beloved motors.
My question is, has anyone on this site used them recently and if so what results have been acheived..?
He mentioned taking my stock S4 Avant to 315bhp and 500+nm for a cost of £600.00 + vat. Also said Milltek downpipes should increase my horses by 30bhp. This seems comparible with most other companies but just wondered if I should give them a go...?

Any advice welcome.

Shagga my car has been tuned by mihnea several times as have about 30+ cars on the S2 forum I am currently running approx 360hp and Tom Cockings approx 475hp. Mihnea owns an S4 himself which he is tuning also.

He is down at Tom's this week tuning cars prior to a Rolling Road shootout at Interpro in Bristol on sunday too.

Hope this helps.

Please bear in mind that the price I gave you was for a generic type 'chip' and NOT for a custom tuned remap, the cost of that is slightly higher, but if you go that route then make sure that you change the exhaust and do any other mods before hand so that you can gain the maximum from the engine.

Hope that helps you Shane

Thanks Tom,
I realise it's not the custom install. Please let me know when you have pricing on the Milltek and I'll sort a day out to come down.

Cheers for the help and advice.
Shane

Yeah definetly, should see the improvements it has had on my car, if you check the RS2 section in the boost gauge thread there are some more comments there too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you the one accusing AmD of "Ripping you off" not so long ago, and now your selling MRC remaps. I think an explanation may be in order....

Yes that was me. AMD admitted to their error and apologised and refunded us in full and paid for fuel costs for the 2 trips to their place. They did replace their 'tuned' file with a stock file without our knowledge. That fact has absolutely nothing to do with 1) my links to MRC, and 2) this thread!

I haven't been advertising here, i was just replying to clarify the pricing policy so that others aren't confused.

Please contact me via PM or email should you wish to further discuss this matter.

Hmmm. Great. Yet another 600quid chip company. If you want a rechip buy it off ebay.de for
a lot less. My jabbasport remap cost 475 inc. vat. It may not be the best out there but it was a
remap and they did what I asked for (in terms of boost curve). I was exicited that there
would be another choice (and a better choice) which might disrupt the market a little. I guess
thats not to be.

Pays your money and takes your choice. Id rather know what I was getting with a custom remap that retains knock control and other safeguards unlike some chips on ebay

I would not use anyone else other than MRC. The service and product are excellent.

Interesting but incorrect. If you look into this area you will find many companies selling rechips from a variety of sources. Some good and some not so good. Few are still developing remaps for older cars and most are happy to plug and play newer cars.
Where MRC/Mihnea are ahead is having the genuine experience/knowledge to manipulate motronic code to improve performance for the individual car with all safety parameters intact.
That is custom tuning and is another, better choice.

ok so now Im confused..

so the Revo code I am currently trialing is not a custom remap - just a generic chip? If so which companies out there (other than MRC) are recommended?

Oh lordy what have I done....
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6
