MTM tuning
MTM tuning
MTM claim several different stages of upgrade, in my case for the S3 - for example, chip only or chip and backbox or chip and cat back exhaust system.
For the catback system and chip QST claim 269 bhp, over a claimed (pretty believeable) 254 bhp for a chip only - which is actually less than most claim in the UK for a chip only.
Now I dont think in my experience that a cat back exhaust on a S3 is normally going to give you 15 bhp more - unless MTM put in a different chip for this combination in comparison to the one they put in for a chip only upgrade?
With MTM being TUV approved, don't their power figures have to something like 5% in tolerance as part of either EU or German law? If it is 5% then thats about 255 bhp from 269 bhp which would be easily achieveable.
Obviously I could just call and ask Kim but has anyone looked into this already?

Yes the TUV regs are very strict. Stipulates air temperature, inlet temp, tyre size and lots more. My understanding is that it should mean that whatever you must always get the stated increase and this effectively becomes a minimum.
Drill on TSN had an Oettinger chip in his A3 and it ended up producing loads more than officially stated, although he did eventually visit them and they did another tweak on their rolling road.... I'm sure he ended up with something like 210 bhp !
I'm considering Oettinger or MTM for my S Line ( when the problem from saturday is sorted) and RSD who are the Ottinger people have told me that the 230 conversion ( chip inlet pipe and injectors) will probably result in nearer 240 !!! weyhey...... so the 215 could be 220ish and the inlet pipe is worth about 6/7 bhp ( but costs £500
) and I'm close to my departed S3 !!
There must be people here who know much more about this than me ?
ps her indoors doesn't know about this yet -- I'm currently under the 'you've had 3 new cars since I had mine' !

I think MTM's claims are pretty accurate, not heard of an MTM S3 that was down on power. Micks S3 RR'd well, as did that other chaps dark blue one (Loddriks old car IIRC) which got about 275 on AmD's rollers when we were there last winter.
It's odd that the Revo'd S3's never seem to get great results on BHP, mind you I think I got 258BHP the one and only time my old car went on.
Let us know how you get on Dunc.

Regarding the 5% tolerances, that figure comes from an EU directive regarding car manafacturers power claims, not chips.
I am of the conclusion that REVO does not make the figures on dynos when I have been to a RR - not just my car but Simons never made anything much more than 250ish either - but - I dont think they are slower on the road or track than others.
I got 260 bhp once but that was with a non standard map which I no longer have on my car - how are these others getting 265+?
Obviously it could be my car at fault here which is what I want to find out.

The Leon Cupras are a mystery to me too - on some dynos I have seen figures of approx 270 and 320 lb/ft with REVO.
This is a summary of my RR results with REVO:
low boost 9 timing 4/5
Interpro 252 bhp and 269 lb/ft (iirc)
High boost 6 timing 5
running a Mitchell special (which I dont have anymore)
AMD 234 bhp and 290 lb/ft
AMD 260 bhp and 300 lb/ft
Normal Revo map
AMD 251 bhp and 290 lb/ft
QST 248 bhp and 288 lb/ft
Stock mode
QST 228 bhp
Pretty consistent I would say around 250 (same as Simons old S3 with REVO too) but others show (real or not but on the same days 260, 265 even 270+ odd). I dont want to get to hung up on figures but at two of these AMD days my car has been the lowest BHP S3 there (but always good torque)
So the unanswered question that I need to work out is could I get more power (not loads more but more) with a different chip?
ho hum

no. Don't go giving him ideas. I currently have the fastest estate car on our 'Estate' and there is no room for another one for Dunc!bjacks wrote:The words badger, press gang and pier pressure sping to mind![]()
Take the mods off the S3, sell them on here, then start looking for a nice RS. Simple.
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

All in for under £30K, bargin mate
BTW Dunc, do you know if ANY Revo'd S3/TT managed to perform well on the rollers or is it a particular release of code?
