Bendy wheel issue in other countries!

Post by rs4-sson » Mon Sep 27, 2004 1:54 pm

Hi guys

I've tried to contact someone via PM about this but I thought I'd throw it open for general comment too..

I spotted from a very old thread that several of you helped a guy out from Sweden (RS4 was his username) by providing him with a letter from Audi UK re the bendy wheel issue. This was waay back in Feb 03. Could ysomeone possibly dig it out again please and send it to me. I am in Sweden and have an RS4 and I suspect the wheels are the bendy ones. The only added complication is that the car was privately imported from Germany by the previous owner and so Audi Sweden have no responsibility towards me I fear especially since I bought the car from a private, non-Audi dealer.

Do I need to get the replacement (hard) wheels from Audi Germany or should I just get (soft) replacements from any audi Service centre in Sweden. Is the lifetime replacement of soft wheels a global agreement or is it only a goodwill gesture from Audi UK?

Sorry for all the questions!

cheers

Well it turns out that there are only 10 or so RS4s in the whole of Sweden and whilst the guy at Audi Sweden had heard of the bendy wheel issue, not one single RS4 owner had appraoched audi sweden to get replacement wheels. I told him that I was, in that case, the first to request replacement wheels and the guy said that he would try and see if Audi AG in Germany could help. Surely, its not my problem who replaces the wheels, I am an RS4 owner and I have the right to new wheels as and when required? Anyone got any views and/or advice on what to do next? I'm not completely convinced that Audi Sweden will not relay my case to GmbH as strongly or as convincingly as I could......

Thanks guys

Bendt wheel in other countries - UPDATE

Post by rs4-sson » Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:44 am

Regrettably, after 6 months of nagging, I have thrown in the towel with Audi AG and Audi Sweden...

Audi Sweden do not recognise the Audi UK goodwill warranty on soft alloys (as they it is a local decision and they are not obliged to follow suit)and Audi AG Customer Services echoed this (saying they have no control over other Audi companies in other countries).

In a nutshell, well done Audi UK for their customer service...a hearty feck you to every other Audi company.

As a side point, Audi UK said that if I took my car over to the UK and registered it as an import to the UK (even for one day) they would quite happily replace my wheels!!

Thanks for listening..

At the time of the issue, there were 400 odd owners who were all voicing concern over the wheel issue, some louder than others, and Audi UK could not afford to take a risk after the TT issues and recall, so they opted for the easier and more friendly route of addressing the problem before it bit them in the bum... I do remember reading that it was confined to Audi UK customers only, not even the German customers got the offer of wheels for life or the one off harder rims in exchange.

It is far cheaper just getting 4 BBS CH rims and have the whole thing behind you.
