Diverters
Diverters
Hi all - most of this is in my SPS3 thread but I wanted more help from people who have other tuning modifications.....
Keith @ Dialynx fitted adjustable 'Turbo smart' Diverters to the car. I don't know whether it is because I keep changing things, but I am struggling to get them set up properly - some times they are really nice (i.e. boost is straight back there after gear change and/or lift off) but sometimes they are rubbish (half a second or so of nothing before boost again) Like today.
When I had the REVO it took about two days of fiddling, when I got he K&N it changed again, when I got the SPS 3 it seems to have changed again. Now idon't mind a challenge but am getting very borred of burnt fingers and taking the engine cover off and fiddling. Keith says they are the best ( and lets face it, he knows his eggs !!), but what do you guys use ?
Hate to keep bringing up Max Power especially with my neons and all that - but has anyne tried actually BOV's ?
Do most people use Forge ?
Or should I just keep adjusting ?
Anyone fancy a swap ?
Anyone ?
Thanks,
Tom

The Forge 007P's have been the most common DV replacements on RS4's in the UK by far.
Have you tried putting the stock DVs back in?

What about BOV's -
What do you guys think ?
Are there performance issues - or are all the issues the fact that I will sound and look like a c**t ?
these for example ?

The BOV sort of defeats the object of what the DV is supposed to do... i.e. recirculate the boost to keep the turbos spinning whilst you come off the power; hence putting uprated DVs with a shortshifter.
The BOV you have linked to also looks like you will no longer be able to use the carbon cover... This will probably affect temps in that area. Did you notice the unconected pipe there? I wonder what they do with it.... Hate to think what would happen if a foreign object was to get in!!
Oh, and yes; with BOV you will sound like an idiot.

Jon, I'm not convinced that it would stall because the turbos would replace the lost air almost immediately, because the throttle would be closed. As James points out, the problem would be over-fuelling.
To answer Tomson's original post, remember that the DVs are a compromise: They need to open quickly to avoid back-pressure on the turbos to avoid them stalling, but close quickly to allow pressure to build up again when the throttle opens. Having had DV problems myself, and communicated a lot with others, it is clear that getting the correct spring tension is crucial, as you have found. Others, like me, have non-adjustable DVs and have to rely on graded springs from the supplier. The tendency is to have a stronger spring then might otherwise be used, to avoid hesitancy, at the risk of boost spikes.
However, having had detailed discussions with tuners myself, I have come to the conclusion that the DV control loop (including the ECU) is just not very good. So yes, I can imagine that your DV response could vary from day-to-day as the the ECU makes adjustments for air temperature etc.

Thanks Dippy,
When I get 5 mins, I am going to put the standard ones back on and see what happens I have not tried them with the K&N and REVO as yet.
In fairness to Keith (Dialynx) with the adjustable Turbo smart items I have I should be able to get them perfect. It is just time consuming and very warm in the engine bay - I think I have finished f**king around with the car for a while so might have another go now things have settled.
Will report back on standard and adjustables as and when I get a result.

We supply the 007p's for the RS4 with blue springs but normally suggest red if you are running Revo software

This report should help people make their minds up on which Diverters to go for ... that's the theory anyway
