H&R Suspension on Audi S4 2.7 question?

Post by BlackShadow » Mon Jul 19, 2004 2:30 pm

My biturbo S4 is fitted with H&R coilovers. They were fitted by QST toward the beginning of the year and the car was lowered 30 mm. They improved the handling considerably. However, the car keeps grounding on those plastic speed humps, of which there are loads where my girlfriend lives in Wapping. Moreover, when I occasionally drive into work, when going down the ramp to enter the underground car park, the car grounds out like you wouldn't believe. I'm surprised there is anything left under the car and most of the on-lookers are as well.

Anyway, I think the benefit of having the car lowered may be getting outweighed by the hassle. So if I raise the car back up to its original height (i.e. 30 mm higher), what are the disadvatages of doing this? I know it will not corner as good as with the car lowered, but does it make such a difference - i.e. compared to standard suspension does the benefit come more from the stiffer H&R suspension or the lowering?

Thanks for any advice guys

You could try lowering the profile of your tyre and raising by about 10 - 15mm. I have exactly the same setup from QST and only noticed it when i was doing over 20mph over the bumps, which you shouldnt really do. As long as i keep my speed down over the bumps i dont get any problems. What size alloys and tyres do you currently have on?

The new nasty plastic sqaure speedhumps get you even at 5 mph.

This may be a bit of stupid question but if you lower the profile of your type and increase the ride height, does this increase the ground clearance?

lowering the profile should help prevent the tyre hitting the inside of the wheel well or wheel arch, increasing the ride height will increase the ground clearance. Think thats right
