Sorry to bring up the old which tyre thread again but I am due for replacements now, so I am looking to get Goodyear F1 GSD3s. I have had Pirelli Rossos, currently Potenza SO3s so the F1s are up next (like to try different tyres). Before I get the F1s, Micheldever also sell Yokohoma AVS tyres - anyone tried these? I have done a search and the name has popped up a few times but anyone got any comments?

Maxmimum grip is the name of the game - I want an intermediate tyre that is safe in the wet but good on track too. I was going to get a track tyre and new rims but I have knocked that idea on the head for now due to cost.

Well th Goodyear F1 is a no no then

Both myself and JR have had these tyres and had to get a refund on them, they just cannot stand the heat build up and the centre of the tread started to split

AVS are the mutts IMHO, either going for another set of these or may go for Michellin PS2, see how much money I have nearer the time

had more of these tyres than i care to remember on my Vectra GSi 2.5 V6 (196bhp) fwd

factory supplied was the Yoko S1-Z which later were replaced by the AVS Sports.

They are very good for grip, and good in the wet whilst new, but incredibly soft and wore very quickly.

I would expect a chipped S3 to shred them in under 10k miles. My GSi certainly did.

Hopefully Mick will pop along too. He has had a Vectra Gsi too and should know these tyres...

Had AVS on a 2.8 80 quattro in 1995/96. Memory is fading now but remember them as fairly soft and very grippy in the wet.They replaced P6000 (?) [img]images/graemlins/jump.gif[/img] so almost any thing would have been better. Cannot comment on life as I sold the car within six months and only a few thousand miles.
The SO3s on her A4 have been good , currently about to be replaced at 21000 miles, might go for the AVS.
I liked the Pilots on the S3 but I have to say the wet grip seemed much worse. Much more difficult to correlate differences when the vehicles and tyre sizes are quite different.

My S03s have done less than about 10k miles. I think the excessive wear is due to Porsche brakes and track days. AVS its gonna be then.

Well that goes without saying, dot expect more than 10k from the rubber that is grippy, cant have the best of both worlds, hard compounds last well but dont grip as well

I agree with the comments. Yokos are a great tyre but this IS because they use a softer compound than other manufacturers. 10K seems a reasonable forecast but it could be less depending on your driving!
