(I found this news on AudiPassion.com and after a quick search on rs246, it seems it's not posted yet)

So here is a scan of AMD "Once Click" solution for doing tuning through OBD port.

in a tuning-novice's ears, this sounds like breakthrough! Is it?

Biturbo, you're right to point it out. A miss from my initial post

Interesting, AMD have used the word undetectable in their literature. I wonder if it really is? (I have heard that REVO code is detectable, not sure about APR)

If it really is undetectable then that is pretty neat. May have to go invest in this, this way i can put it back to standard when the mrs needs to drive it. Always felt paranoid about giving her control of 320 odd horses.

My missus handles 380 RS4 horsies... what's the deal?

From what I understand, AmD's version of serial port tuning differs to the competition by actually reading and downloading the cars present map, and uploading a new "chipped" map to the ECU. No visit to AmD required.
Revo just allows switching between programs and requires you to go to one of their distributers to get the code onto your ECU first.
Not sure about APR's offering.

Cheers

When switched-on, the Revo code (as any code, afak) is detetectable simply by running a Vag-Com to look for the required boost pressure. Any serious and knowledgeable mechanic about the standard boost pressure will catch it (not every Audi dealer has such competence though).

When switched-off, the Revo code is virtually undetectable.

Except if you un-soldered the stock chip from the ECU and place it on a chip reader, download the code on your PC and investigate it with a dedicated code-comparing tool versus the stock code. Even there, you'll only be able to say the code looks different but it's then another task to identify what/how/where it really does differently (again, as far as I have heard).
Not really for your everyday person, imho

So what's wrong with this one-click job? I don't know too much about chipping, but I understand that every engine is different, and thus the program should be customised. This just sounds like it throws a standard "upgrade" code onto the ECU. Can you do this with a standard RS4 ECU?

How much does it cost to get an RS4 chipped anyway? How far can you go with just a chip?

Rock on

the one unique thing with amd one click, is that once switched with one click, you are completely back to standard AUDI map.

the others, such as Revo (which i have had) and Apr (which i havent) the "foreign" code, always remains in the car, when in "standard or stock" allbeit disabled.

AmD in this respect is different.

it is either Audi standard (it saves "your" audi map.) or performance..

To some this revert completely to Audi standard, with no foreign code hidden disabled in the ecu is a bonus worth having.

1.8T petrol code has been delayed whilst developing the VAG diesel.

Is this little box really going to be as good as taking your car to AMD, where they use a rolling road to check it first and where after chipping they use a rolling road to check the power/torque curves. Surely the visit to AMD means the chipping is more tailor made to your car?

I'd be interested in your opinions on this one.

Sounds like a generic solution similar if not the same prinicple as the REVO remap.

It would be neat if you could go into AMD get a custom remap specifc for your car just like they used to do it, then that code is then put into the little black box and then you can remove/upload the custom map whenever required. I wonder if thats possible, i would much prefer that to generic code?

you can either have a off the shelf map, or a custom one.

Dongle on first application saves your audi map onto memory bank 1 and ties dongle to your car thru chassis number. Modified code is saved onto memory bank 2.

the device uploads one or the other.

Will the car be drivable without the dongle in?

If not then i suppose this helps with security. Even if someone gets your keys they still cant drive away with your car.

Having recently heard about the French law on Modifying cars

being able to return completely and utterly to standard would be a benefit to some
