The launch

Post by david7m » Mon Jan 26, 2004 9:10 pm

Whats the best way to get my APR S3 off the lights? (traction off?)

I remember when Clarkson went out in a four whell drive car on the track, he said you have to get it rolling first with the clutch up before you can give it any, is there a quicker way?

around 3.5k revs, drop the clutch and definitely with ESP off!

Red line and side step the clutch with no ESP WILL be the fasted.

However, the probability of breaking something increases with RPM. Defn ESP off. You need wheelspin, even if a only little.

I saw the same Topgear show. I thought Bollocks, you have no balls boy. Recently when I went 1/4 mile'ing, I did 4 runs with 5K RPM and dropping the clutch. Mind you, i'm running standard horsepower, so the driveline should handle it.

it can if you are brutal enough, however i'd not want to do it consistently!

Its not too hard on the 17" AVUS alloys but on the 18" RSTT`s its alittle harder but is possible.... you`ll need high rev`s +4500rpms then dump the clutch! woooosh!

what about an S4? if i red lined mine and dropped the clutch, the clutch would just spin up and something would snap surely? sod that!! i dont need anymore expense!!

Is this the graph for finding optimum gear change?

you need to measure (ap22 or vag-com) your acceleration in each gear. then look at the numbers or graph to see where they cross each other. this gives you a rpm area where you should shift.

If you shift fast it might also give you the exact rpms to shift. In my s4 it seems that even though my hp is flat in the upper rpms I need to shift early in the higher gears to get the best accelleration. from third gear on no more than 6000 rpms is best with my evotech chip.

Don't have VAG-COM.

Looks like i'll just be doing what feels right for the gear !

I found it no different with ESP on or off (in the dry or wet) when dumping the clutch at 5k rpm on my old Golf 4motion on 1/4 mile sprints i.e quick get away. You have to be brutal on haldex transmission to get a good start.

I haven't tried this dumping the clutch on my RS, nor do I wish to. The haldex (part time & electronic controlled 4wd) is less worrying than on permanent mechanical quattro tranmission.

Best for me is a little roll before rock'n'roll
No sig, no RS4 anymore
