Any input from anyone which remap/chip is the best for the S 3??
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
APR?
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
What makes you say APR is it past experience?
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
I was just introducing it as an option for discussion. Currently i have an APR map on the S4, its faultless. I have had AmD before on the 1.8T, that too was faultless and highly recommended. I went APR this time as you can have multiple programs, cheap cruise and ECU lockout.
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
Ok I see what you mean. The reason I ask is Im wanting a big turbo jobbie next year on the S3 and was wanting to know which one is best!
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
If you are wanting a big turbo job in the future then I would suggest you decide now on which one you want. i.e. if you intend goign MTM in the future then it seems to make sense to chip with MTM now. I wouldn't suggest say dropping in an AMD chi pand then asking Qst do the big turbo as I'm sure they'll want to use an MTM chip.
Just a thought that could save you hundreds.

Surely thats a waste of time? Once you big turbo it it'll need a complete remap anyway.

Unless the company give you an upgrade price for the remap rather than paying the full amount Surely thats a waste of time? Once you big turbo it it'll need a complete remap anyway.

And it makes sense to try and stick to the same tuning house, so they get to know your car ?

I remember when enquiring about putting a K04 on my A3 and AmD said they would just charge the normal labour rate for the remap as it was already chipped by them.
Cheers

Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
you dont(well with MTM anyway) get charged again for a remap, you a new program suited to the new hardware for a small upgrade fee.
MTM RS4
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
i had a MTM chip on my A4 1.8t quattro and it was very good, the only reason against them is that they change the chip unlike revo and thus you have to declare it to your insurers ( just incase!!) give Kim Collins a ring at QST, he's a really helpful bloke

Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
Whatever retuning method you use you should tell the insurance company, if you have a crash they CAN find out and that means no cover.
Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
When I chipped my previous S4. I called round APR and AMD to see what discount they would give on a KKK KO4 mod in the future.
APR Europe as they were then never got back to me. However, they are out of action (They are now the REVO guys I believe) But APR USA i.e. Jim at Star Performance are still very much operating.
AMD offered a 10% discount on the £4200 400bhp mod. I didn't go near Kim as he didn't do a rolling road check and his map was generic.
I opted for AMD on the basis of a unique map.
I never did go the whole way. I bought an RS4 instead
PS I remember a thread sometime back that a tuner was approached by an Insurance company to offer there services on checking ECUs for tampering.
Does anyone know of a case where the insurance company has successfully established this and how did they do it? Will they find an AMD or MTM type chip?

Re: AMDvREVOvMTM
all they have to do to find out if its been mtm'd or amd'd is to remove the ecu and look, or am i missing the plot here? thats why the revo re-map looks so inviting.. there's nothing to look at!! no mangled screw heads or obvious tampering signs, and most of all, no piggy back chip.. but i'm still not sure what to do!!
