RS4 intake conversion - 1st impressions

Post by Prawn » Thu Nov 06, 2003 2:23 pm

I have had the RS4 intake side added to my car over the last couple of days up at AMD.
RS4 aibox, MAF, Y Pipe, etc all fitted with remap and AWE vent mount boost gauge.
Power and tourque came out at

448bhp
485lb/ft

so not a huge increase but certainley noticable on the road.
The car drives a lot smoother with gains in tourque and power over the whole rev range.
However not really got enough miles in to comment fully.
Waiting for the FMIC and oil cooler to arrive from the states, this is on route and should be here by the end of the week, the oil cooler goes in place of one of the std intercoolers once the FMIC is in place.
Should all be fitted and running in time for Oulton park, so it will be interesting to see what improvement the IC makes on intake temp etc.

What about the pipes from the intercoolers to the throttle body? Are you running the RS4 'full-metal jacket' too?

Whos' FMIC are you using ?

I've always wondered why the bigger tuners, MTM etc, never used FMIC's on their S4/RS4 kits ??

Have you thought about using the old IC position to provide cooling to the front brakes ? or some sort of engine bay cooling (plus bonnet vents ?)

I firmly believe it is not all about power though.

At least you'll be secure in the knowledge that the injectors will not be operating at the edge of their capability.

Really looking forward to what she can do at Oulton

HI Dippy,
Currently pipes from the IC to the TBB are std, this is due to the fact that I will get new pipework with the FMIC.

Hi Kiwi,
The FMIC is coming from the staes, ACHtuning.
I am using one of the old IC mounts to fit an oil cooler.
I also plan to open up the vents on the wheelarches at some point over the winter.

Hi Joshie,
I agree with you. The cost of the mods was very high if you look at the return in a bhp/£ way, my concern was more of
reliability particularly in the upper end of the rev range.
Having said that the extra power is always nice to have

Hi Prawn,

Will you have to remove the air conditioning fan on the front of the water radiator to fit the FMIC ?

Also, did you eventually get some figures from ACH on how the FMIC performs relative to OEM S4 & RS4 versions ?

Congratulation on the figures BTW, fantastic.

Cheers,

David

I expect a FULL REPORT on the install and outcome. No excuses !!
