Making your own porsche kit?
Making your own porsche kit?
If you were to grab from your local POrsche spare parts shop, 993 TT Discs & 993 TT Calipers, correct me if im wrong but a brake shop dealing in custom brake installs could make a bell and also an adapter to suit the calipers/discs for your S3, yes???
Would you need a bell made? Or would the 993 one do?? Meaning, you'd only need the bracket that mounts the caliper to the hub and a set of spacers... right??

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
Need a new bell, in effect this is what AmD have done for their kit i believe
It just depends on how much a custom bell and bracket would cost to make it cost effective

Can't beat a bit of boost!
Re: Making your own porsche kit?
I think a bracket is $200 AUD each, and a bell is $400 AUD each
What are the porsche bits and pieces worth, roughly? Discs/Caliper?

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
From the TT page on AmD's site.
"AmD anodised alloy bells & brackets to fit Porsche 993T Front brake callipers & discs to TT, S3, Leon, Octavia & Golf MK4 £249 "
There you go chaps
I have seen calipers/disks for less than £600 the pair in the past on breakers sites also.
Cheers
Ben

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
tbh if you were going to the trouble of getting a bell made to spec, as a one off item, id get the spacer thickness added on, to save messing about with a spacer at all.
Re: Making your own porsche kit?
if you decide to build your own kit, then the advice contained within the following link will give you some great info on how to attach the bells to the discs properly from Movit's American distributor..

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
Ok, great. So AMD will sell me the Adapters and bits and pieces.. I can buy the Calipers & Discs locally to save on freight...
Then all I need is a spacer and im sorted.. Id rather buy the kit from AMD (adapaters) and just get my discs & calipers down here in Australia
Any thing else I need? Apart from pads & fluid?

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
when you get your Porsche caliper, pads and discs etc
consider getting the porsche pad sensor too. there is only one... (on passenger side for RHD cars) it only costs something like £16 GBP, saves shorting out the audi one.
also consider spacers to match on the rear. and your need longer bolts and new locking bolts.
i have 10mm spacers on front , and 15mm spacers on rear.
if you have RSTT 18"rims your need a minimum of 10mm spacer.
if you have Avus 17"rims you dont need any spacer.

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
Thanks for that info Paul!!
I priced everything up, and it was about $3500 with everything..
Can you believe that the Calipers ar $980AUD EACH and the Rotors are $380AUD Each!!!
Unreal...
Everything is so expensive down under..
How much can I get this gear from the UK?
Ill be using standard AVUS wheels, and now with no spacers!

Re: Making your own porsche kit?
Thats cheaper than the UK, (www.XE.com)
3,500.00 AUD Australia Dollars = 1,451.16 GBP
United Kingdom Pounds
my brake kit, inc spacers, locking bolts and part of a 3 car discounted group buy (all S3, all same kit, fitted same day)were over £1600+ GBP fitted inc our taxes.
you can knock off the spacers and bolts, and fitting this end, but remember they are very heavy to transport.

Could you guys actually do me a favour, and tell me if you know the weight in kilograms of the AMD Hats & Adapaters, that is the 249quid kit AMD sell.
