Right Whilst at AmD yesterday having new pads it was pointed out that i have split calipers where as John Roberts has one piece calipers

So why the differece and which one is better or worse

I note the standard porshe pads do not fit my calpiers and i have to have Brembo pads

The Movits are Monobloc (one-piece), as are the Sportec & Porsche. The Brembo's I've got (now Thorney's [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]) are also Monobloc, and pads that fit the Sportec, fit the Brembos and JR's Movit's (sorted his pads at Anglessey).

apparently the two piece caliper is marginally improved as it has two different size pistons, leading and trailing, and generates less heat?

However I am looking into pads as only the brembo pads fit but AmD stock teh Porshe ones you had fitted John and they wont fit????

Looks like, side by side the brembo has a llarger friction pad, but not 100% sure

1, stronger. a two piece caliper naturally will want to pull apart under brake force.. with the braking force trying to spread the caliper apart on the join.... hence the big cross bolts holding it together.

2. Lighter, reduced unsprung weigh (makes suspension more responsive) , as there are no big (heavy)crossbolts holding the caliper together...

Mov'it uses the Brembo callipers fitted to both the 993 Porsche Turbo and the Porsche 996 Turbo. Both of these are 4 piston callipers. In the latter case these are monobloc, ie a single casting. There are both advantages and disadvantages to monobloc callipers.
Single castings are lighter, cheaper to manufacture and have less to go wrong. However, there are potential problems, nobody can predict the internal resolution of forces in a complex single casting, so potentially it may fail through internal stresses introduced during the casting process.
Whether the monobloc can apply greater clamping force is dependent on the design, it is not inherent to the structure of the calliper.
If you look at a number of Brembo race callipers, you will see that they are not of monobloc construction. The engineer who was showing this to me preferred it to a monobloc calliper because each component part was engineered from a simple casting in which there would be no unresolved internal stresses caused by the casting process.

Anybody really interested in brake design for high performance street cars should study the new callipers and rotors now available from Mov'it, these incorporate the state of the art thinking on this topic. Mov'it has learnt that you cannot just take race technology and apply it to street cars, race cars get a brake rebuild after every race, for instance.

Good point, heavier - but better by design.

I take it Mov'it are using seperate castings for this new line Robin?

Bushy, are the pads you are using the same shape as ours but with what seems to be a balancer pad at the top and bottom ?

the metal backing piece is a larger shape, yours has a curve/arc cut out of one edge, whereas mine seem to be straight edged

the pad material looks bigger

so not really sure

going to order another set and tehn take a photo to compare
