RS4 suspension on S4

Post by Prawn » Fri Sep 26, 2003 9:04 am

Had some RS4 suspension fitted to my S4 yesterday, just a
few thoughts :

The previous suspension on mine was still the origional so at 80K miles it was feeling a bit tired, therefore the new stuff was bound to feel better

The car is now lower by approx 10~15mm, just right IMHO still gets over speed bumps etc without grounding.

Previousley the car jumped around a bit if you hit bumps / holes on corners, this is no longer the case it stays were you want it.

Body roll is greatly reduced whilst 'pushing on' during road driving.

Front end dive under braking is also greatly reduced over the previous suspension.

I am certainly happy with the results, maybe not as controlled as it would be with H&R kit etc but a lot cheaper, a good compromise between std and full on kit.

I agree totally, the transformation was amazing, with no loss in comfort either. This setup is so controllable on the limit - still to much understeer for my liking, so I've fitted the H&R ARBs (fr & rear) - too early to tell just how good they are, but I'm at CC on 11th Oct. Initial impresions are no noticable loss of comfort (important, as I've got to carry my precious cargo at times) & feels a bit sharper round roundabouts.

Put the Quattro GMBH suspension kit on, that will fix up the understeer.

Just for everyones information, whilst I was researching ARB's for my S4, I priced up the std RS4 front & rear ARBs and discovered that the part nos. were the same as the S4's I then thought about buying just the rear ARB that comes as part of the GmbH kit for the RS4, which is made by Eibach - spoke the the UK HQ and they wouldn't sell me one I then called AMD to see if they could help, but they never got back to me with a price so I eventually went for the H&R kit which includes a pair of thicker bars front (32mm) & rear (17mm).

Nige,
Is your car a 1999 or 2000MY.
I had a set ordered at AMD but they did not fit when they arrived as they were for the later model.
If your was the earlier car can you let me have the part numbers ?

I believe it is very much the same and can be interchanged as quite a few owners have carried out this conversion

In fact I have recently sold my old standard suspension to an S4 owner to fit to his car

Cheers

Right, just to clarify things

The part#'s for the S4 & RS4 are different for both springs & shocks (but Bushy is right, they are interchangeable). The part#'s for the anti-roll bars are identical between the 2 cars, so don't go buying RS4 items thinking they will improve handling - clear as (closest icon to mud I could find )

Hi Prawn, my car is a mid-99 model (facelift) - I can't understand why the ones that AMD ordered didn't fit ?? I'll try and dig the H&R part #'s out tonight.
