After some spirited driving at Snetterton my tyres look a little bit the worse for wear [img]images/graemlins/spineyes.gif[/img]

To save any embarassment with plod I am looking to replace the Bridgies which I have been really pleased with

What is the latest in tyre technology (possibly the new Pirellis) or do I stick with Bridgestones?
The only problem with them is they are 91's and not 94's

Very pleased with the Continental Sport Conti II about £170 a corner, good in the wet too, but i still think the Bridgestones are better in the wet than any other tyre.

But we could use an update from Mr tyre guru himself, Jan.

All I can say is that I have now had four changes of tyres and each time they have been to the Yoko AVS of one size or another. 17's on the old S4, two sets of 18's on the RS and 19's on the RS. When the change has been made from a different manufacturer to Yoko, the change has always been for the better.

BUT : Its never that simple is it?...this should be the case when swapping to new rubber from worn, anyway. I was very impressed with the S4 V8 I tested on Continental Sport Contact 2's, and they are the newer design of tyre.

Though my current set have plenty of tread left after 8,000 miles and several trackdays, I'm getting some tramlining now so its time for a fresh set for me too soon, and I would be interested to know if anyone has any comparison test data of the yokos with some of the newer designs side by side.

Must agree with JR, the Bridgestone's are the best in the wet IMHO
Just wondering if anyone has had a report on the new Dunlop SP Sport 01's?

I started on Pirelli P6000s and thought they were crap. I then had Michelin Pilot Sports and was happy, although they would squeal a lot and the wet performance was not what I wanted.

I was going to switch to Bridgestone's but there are a fair few negative reports of the latest version compared to the one it superceded (S03?).

Whereas I only read positive reports about the Toyo Proxes. So that's what I have now and can report that they are far better than the Michelin Pilot sports in every way.

I'm not sure I'll ever get the chance to see what the Bridgestones are like as unless enough people say they're better than the Toyos, I'll stick with them.

Pirelli's were deffo a bit crap, althought those Nero's are supposed to be Ok, as are the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. Dunlop Sp9000 are dreadful, althought the road legal semi-slick is superb (but not for many miles). My choice at the moment (coz I'm limited in 19x10size) is the Yoko AVS - the are very very good in all conditions, but not superb in any.

im suprised you Rs4 boys even consider yoko's
the S1Z was standard fit on my old Vectra GSi V6 (196bhp) and were later replaced with the AVS sports.

But they were far, far to soft. My FWD Veccy used to eat them! you go out on a jaunt, and see the missing tread by the time you come back, and this wasnt even wheel spinning or silly launches.

I havent used anything but Mitchelin Pilot sports on my S3's and well happy with them.

Got to agree with Dippy.... I've been using Toyos for years with the odd OE ture thrown in. Great tyre and loads of bang for buck [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

To be honest the Mrs Lennons were the farthest from my mind when I had to change from Sp9000's but seeing Tim's handling at Hockenheim last November on 19's with the AVS it changed my mind you could say [img]images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

Plus I couldn't get the Pilot Sport 2's in my size 3 months ago, and the Toyo's seem a bit stretched on the Sportecs.

To be honest the AVS's are wearing and performing quite well on trackdays as you will no doubt experience at Donington Paul [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

I too have no doubt that Yoko make some of the best tyres - I have used them a lot on previous cars. I remember how in the wet, with your windows down you can actually hear them make a noise like they're 'sucking' the car onto the road! HOWEVER, as has been pointed out they use a VERY soft compound and they really don't last long. If you have the money great, but if you need something that lasts a reasonable time then the Toyos are a better option.

I have pilot sports on the 993 (rwd) and they are pretty good on the road in wet and dry. I'd have them again as they are predictable. On the track they overheat quickly though and get very slidey. Great for steering the car on the throttle though [img]images/graemlins/jump3.gif[/img]

On the Corrado (fwd) I have tried Contis which were very very good. They are also very very expensive though. I've also tried the S02s, and imo these are the best tyres I have tried. Last year I swapped to some 17" wheels that had toyos on. imo these are as good as the S02s in the dry, but are not as grippy in the wet, and will lock up or slide earlier than the S02s would. Having said that I've stuck with the Toyos as there is a big price difference...

My RS4 has bridgestones (S02s I think, might be S03s - not sure) which so far have not even given a hint of letting go.
Of course it could just be that I don't drive like you lot do [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

So, if you can afford the S02/3s I'd say give them a go, but otherwise stay with the Toyos. they are/were standard fit to the TreVoRs I believe, so must be pretty good.

I read a lot of reports saying that the S03s aren't as good as the S02s were. Anyway, the Toyos are fine for me - with the level of traffic on the A4 these days I don't even need a performance engine let alone performance tyres!

I've read the same too. I've not driven on them back-to-back so can't really comment.
