What Oil? - again..

I know there's been a whole heap of posts on what oil to use but what was the reccomendation again? and where's the cheapest place to get it?

Depends on your car. I know that the S3 & RS4 MUST use VAG 503.01 oil, whereas the S4 does not unless its on AVS. I'd guess that the RS6 also MUST, but the S6 not, especially as it is NA.

I have always recommended to any S4 owner, and expecially those who have chipped, that they use 503.01 oil as well.

Oils which meet 503.01 are:
Mobil 1 (stocked by Halfords)
Castrol Formula SLX (NOT, I repeat NOT stocked by Halfords)
Synta Gold (VAG's own)

There are others but I can't name them.

Synta is the cheapest, then Mobil 1, and then the Castrol is the most expensive, but probably because you can only buy it in 1l bottles from dealers.

I know mine has been run on Motul 15w50 300V Competition oil. Have to decide whether I continue or not as I have a service in Sept. Any comments?

I'm no oil expert, but I'd say that the cold viscosity of that oil is too high for a turbocharged engine. Isn't the Audi recommendation for an RS4 the same as for the S4, i.e. 0W30? I think that Mobil 1, being 0W40 (in the UK at least) is good for our cars when we run them hotter [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
