When you change the discs, is it neccessary/recommended/pointless to change the pads at the same time?

I'd go for 'recommended', and lean towards 'strongly recommended. If you fit a new disk then surely the use of a new pad will aid the life expectancy of the disk... IMHO

Necessary. Why do half a job?

The reason I ask is because they were only changed 5k miles ago? And the previous set lasted 45k and the stealership said it should be done together.
I am selling the car, so if it is not neccessary, then I won't do it and save the money.

Sand the pads flat before you put them back otherwise they will mark your new discs.
