VAG-COM vs Rolling Road

Post by DuncS3 » Sun May 18, 2003 9:15 pm

VAG COM seems a pretty impressive tool to me.
In terms of checking the health of your car what can I get from a RR that I cannot get from VAGCOM? (apart from BHP/Torque readings)

Dunc, you can get torque settings (thus bhp after conversion) from Vag-com, but I'm told that it isn't 100% reliable due to sampling rates etc. The most I've got today on a run with Vag-com is 361 NM which is 266 lb/foot of torque.

Some rolling roads don't measure boost - others do like g-force and Interpro. The Well Lane Turbo centre didn't so we measured it in the car on the rollers with Vag-com.

Thats strange, on the leaflet i got it says quote:

Not Maximum BHP Figures.
265bhp / 287lb ft / 389nm

This is was i was running according to the chap i got my trial from.

Riz, how did the chap who set your software up know how much power your car was outputting? was this stated on the leaflet you got?

BTW, I think the VAG-COM tool is a must have for anyone who has 'Tweaked' their car. Today's VAG-COM logging has provided proof of that for me.

PS Dunc, tuesday's logging session on your car should be interesting - after friday's update, the boost curve on my car has changed...

yup its all on the leaflet i got off him, got loads of VAG cars with not max output figures on them, basically typical figures and not the max available.

Audi S3 (210 non VVT) 260bhp / 284ft lb
Audi S3 (210/225 VVT) 265bhp / 287lb ft

My cousin says he selected timing 4 but i was thinking he put it on 7? he said that he selected the 98RON program and that if it was the Optimax one the gain would be more, 280bhp approx.

i need to get vagcom, and more importantly a laptop soon...

even more dosh!

Simon/Dunc...

how are you finding the later code? I "felt" it was a huge improvement, particularly in high boost range... smoother and more pleasurable to drive....

I like mine so far, appears smoother but I havent been out much this weekend in the car.

Anyway, what about Air/Fuel ratio - only measured on RR or can VG do that?

Paul, latest revison definitely smoother. Vag-com reckons the car is more powerful.

Dunc, I'd say you can - if the ecu needs to know what these are for optimal running, then they will be 'Measurable' via codes which means Vag-com should be able to access them.
