Advice on the condition of these brake discs

Post by ThermalP4 » Thu Jul 27, 2017 6:53 pm

Hi Guys.

Just picked up a nice B7 with 43k on the clock.

Car has just had an MOT with no advisories.

However, when going through the history and looking at Audis comments from the service last year they mention discs being scored and corroded and needing replacing.

Now I know they sometimes just want to make money but now I've actually looked at the discs they do look a bit rough.

They have no lip though.

I've attached some pics. One is front and one is rear.

Can one of you guys give your opinion on if you think they need to be changed?

Many thanks.

Brake pads look like they've worn uneven and not creating full pressure on the disc.

To me it looks like the car may have been sat outdoors unused for quite a while and rust had built up. I would measure the disc thickness and as long as there's plenty of meat left I'd get them skimmed and fit a new set of pads.

I think it has been sat.

Only 300 miles between last two MOTs.

What both have said above ^^^^^^.

I'd be looking at the callipers cause they aren't working properly. You might just get away with having the discs skimmed afterwards, but i'd possibly just replace the pads anyway.

I'll probably replace the discs and pads.

If I can get them skimmed I will but would rather change them.

Just hope there isn't a problem with the calipers.

Quick question also.

I only bought it yesterday from a dealer and it's just had its MOT.

Does anyone reckon I'm within my rights to ask for some contribution towards this?

Oh ok well this is similar to what happened to my son when he bought a B7 RS4 from Birmingham Audi. I took one look at the front discs and they were shot. 3 days later my son took the car back to the stealer and demanded that if they were not changed then the car would be returned to them and a refund required. They put up a bit of a fight then finally agreed to change them at a full cost to them.

I've mailed the dealer this morning which i'll follow up with a phone call if no response.

If a resolution isn't possible then the car will be going back which is the last thing I want because its a stunning car.

Reviews of the garage online all seem to be really positive so hopefully I won't have much trouble.

Do blame myself though for not raising it at the time of collection. It was the fact that no advisories on the MOT report made me overlook it.
