Just been reading about the b8 which is basically identical to the bns engine in the b7. Only real difference being intake and compression. So i would say a modded b7 should beat a stock b8 of the same power due to the b7 being slightly lighter, assuming the b7 is a saloon

You're not really giving the S-Tronic any credit. Besides, the real test should still be B7 avant vs B8 avant.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Not quite. There is basically nothing the same between the bns and cfsa other than they are 4.2 v8 engines. The bns is the love child of an b6 S4 and a Q7.

The CFSA is the audi v10 developed with lambo then with 2 cyclinders chopped off, wet sump and different intake.

The bns was derived from the v10 too

I've not got any B7 times to share, but this has to be an opportunity to say I managed a 12.87 @ 108.6mph at Shakespeare Raceway in my standard B8 S4 (s-tronic).

I thought the development started from 3.2 v6, added 2 cylinders for the 4.2 v8 then added another 2 cylinders for the 5.2 v10 later.

The B7 v8 was never a v10. Its the alloy B6 S4 engine with the q7 bottom end and FSI. 4 valve per cylinder and not 5. Same basic lump as the original R8 v8.

From Audi's 4.2 V8 self study guide published in 2006:
The first member of the current Audi V family of engines was the 3.2-liter V6 FSI engine.
Special features of the Audi V-engine family are the 90-degree angle between the cylinder banks and the 90 mm spacing
between the cylinders.
The 4.2-liter V8 FSI engine is also a member of this family.
It is available in two versions – a comfort-oriented version (used for the first time in the Audi Q7) and a sporty high-revving
version for the new RS4. A 5.2L V10 FSI will also be available in the near future.

From the Audi 5.2 V10 self study guide published in 2007:
The 5.2L V10 engine is based on the design of the 4.2L V8 engine with the addition of two cylinders.

Yes. Highlight "current v family". An FSI was not the first V engine.

The B7 engine is based on the, then, all new 40 valve 4.2 v8 BBK engine from the B6 S4. Loads of changes including going to 32 valve and FSI made it the B7 BNS engine and original R8 BJH. You're right there was a 5.2 v10, the BUJ

The CFSA v8 in the B8 is of no relation to any of these and along with the R8 CNDA V8 is part of the new family with the various Audi/lambo v10's (CMPA, CTPA, CTPB, CTYA).

The engine codes are a pretty good clue as to what is related to what.
