Engine carbon clean - no improvement!
Engine carbon clean - no improvement!
Hi guys and girls,
Thought I'd share some information which might save you wasting your money as I recently did. I have a V10 S8 that has clearly suffered with the dreaded carbon build up. A power run last year at Surrey rolling road showed a very disappointing 370 bhp. Two weeks ago I decided to try the Engine Carbon Clean treatment. Well, I returned to Surrey rolling road today and there was absolutely NO improvement. Not even 1bhp. When the 2 power graphs were overlaid on each other, they were virtually identical.
I was originally very sceptical about the 'technology' and now it's obvious that I wasted £100 plus the cost of the rolling road run. Don't be conned into believing this 'hydrogen technology' will magically remove the carbon from your intake valves. It clearly doesn't!!

Unfortunately I wish I had some kinder words but...
Anyone that falls for this snake oil I feel sorry for. It was never going to work and those making money from it on our series of engines are blatantly stealing. They know it doesn't work, we know it doesn't work, but you get idiots like this promoting them - presumably a kickback from them due to the popularity of the YouTube channel.

Now my r8 v8 is faster than a v10 r8!!

Re: Engine carbon clean - no improvement!
The only reason I tried it was that an Audi employee at the classic car show told me that it works. I also told the Carbon Clean guy that I expected a refund if I saw no improvement. I'll be contacting him on Monday. Let's see how he reacts...

I searched last year and didn't find anything, but stupidly didn't do a more recent search. I just found the long thread about the RS4, Jag XJS and Golf. Anyway, I've asked for a refund. I'll keep you postedS4WON wrote:Shame you didnt search this forum first

Re: Engine carbon clean - no improvement!
Intake manifold removal and a walnut blast is the proven way to clean up the dreaded carbon build up on intake valves. Yes it's a longer and more costly procedure but at least you can see what you are cleaning up and see that it is removed safely from the engine.

New to ownership and have considered having a carbon clean at one of the places that offer it, what would be good to know is from anyone who has had it done, what power did you see before and after?
Cheers

Re: Engine carbon clean - no improvement!
Total waste of time on any FSI engine. Fuel is not sprayed on the back of the valves.
You need to take the inlet off and physically clean the crap off.

Re: Engine carbon clean - no improvement!
Personally i would say a proper carbon clean that MRC / Revolution and an few other tuners do (not the eninge flush sytem i forget its name) is worth it i did my B7 RS4 at 35k and there was a noticeable difference in the engine just felt it was willing to rev better
and if i where keeping the car long term i would have facterd this into my service shedual
there has been a few threads for and against carbon clean but fro me when you see the before and after pictures i cant see how the engine will perform to its fullest when the valves are caked with crud

Yes you're right. The OP was talking about the plug in type cleaning methods that physically can't work on a direct injection engine.Brooner wrote:Personally i would say a proper carbon clean that MRC / Revolution and an few other tuners do (not the eninge flush sytem i forget its name) is worth it i did my B7 RS4 at 35k and there was a noticeable difference in the engine just felt it was willing to rev better

The op was referring to the treatment I was asking regarding the full clean from the likes of MRC
