4.0 TFSI UK quarter mile

Post by thistle » Tue Mar 31, 2015 12:19 pm

Very long time lurker, probably about a decade... new poster.

It seems that there is a meme on here re quarter mile times :boohoo:

Not really into it, but after selling the GT-R I took the S8 up to Crail in the damp.

11.38 at 125.7mph was the best but did a few terminals at 126.1mph. Best 60 foot was 1.92, lots of wheelspin.

How are others doing in the UK on 4.0 TFSI?

Or do you prefer dyno print outs? :FIREdevil:

FON.
That's a stonking time! It is mapped?
Crail is up hill too, I think.

A B7 TTS'd RS4 recently ran a 12.14@120.3 mph with 1.91 60ft at Crail. It's amazing to think the boat-like S8 would muller it by a half second!
No matter where you go, there you are.

FON received, appreciated and understood :)

I love the S8, I wondered whether it would be good enough to replace my previous D4 A8 diesel and tuned R35 GTR with, and it is. It feels faster than the GTR because of the amazing ZF 8 speed and the engine, both standard and (of course) tuned is just awesome.

Must be the best VFM self drive limo :) It does shrink around you and can be pedalled with great fun in the twisties and no one gives it a second look and thinks I sell photocopiers or something.

Crail might be up or downhill, has a poor surface, wind in all directions but gentle cross wind that day, but it does seem to be consistent with other UK drag strips.

Welcome John,

11.3 is a great time on a damp miserable Crail surface, well done

bam_bam - Crail is an old WW2 site, not really maintained but the track overall is pretty flat. There's a slight downhill section in the braking zone I suppose, but the main 1/4m is like a pancake, the launch pad is nothing like you would get at Santapod, traction can be a struggle, Crail's main flaw.

A plug for my own video in my old TTRS below to show you the track, but that's just to rub it into John that the mighty 2.5T TTRS managed it 1/100 of a second quicker in 11.37  Although I did get a much better launch at 1.72 60ft and a slower terminal speed.

I currently have a 2.0T Audi S3 (8V new model) and have managed 11.90 at Crail with that a few months ago. Nippy little cars with a tune.

I have an RS6 ordered for September delivery, I'm sure I'll get that into the 10's soon after

There doesn't appear to be a big 4.0TT scene here in the UK yet, I'm sure that will change in time.

So that's on the standard 520ps? Damn!

Just goes to show how much the old 5 speed slushbox holds back the old RS6's, I was at santa pod recently and got 12.58 @ 112.5, and that's with more power and torque than your S8. I only did the 1 run so might have been able to shave a bit of time off, but probably not much.

S8 is tuned with a map. 11.8 at 118 supposedly standard on a good US strip.

Could have been anyone 😶

My RS6 did 11.4 first run then progressively slower (with passengers and playing with ESP setting for 'launch').
