Re: APR MTM GIAC AMS Chip Shootout Info
Andy, we're not going to agree here mate. In the same thread, the people were asking what Pinking is/what it sounds like etc.. So how can you rely on this??
What are people to think?? when I had my Car AMD'd, there was an increase in air intake noise - after much investigation, it turns out that the air inlet hose was collapsing at the turbo end - couldn't they have forseen this?? Why didn't the rolling road session there pick up on this?? does this mean that AMD are <beep>?? IMO no, they are very knowledgeable - but it doesn't mean I have to eat their every words.
Now, imagine what would have happened if I'd have posted an article on a public forum saying my turbo sounds like it is shagged after being remapped by AMD based upon what someone had posted??? Only to later find that it was the hose..
I think I'm trying to say that there must surely be acceptable ways of posting without alarming people unnecessarily and I think at times, people have - both on this forum and on AS.net
I don't think you'll get an official response from the tuners - I remember Scott from AMD saying they'd never publicly get involved with any internet forum message posts as it turns nasty and people reach the wrong conclusion... Just look at the tuners on the Scooby forum..
I want my car to go on a rolling road to help me understand if/how the performance has been improved upon (I've still got my AMD plots to compare with) - it just seems that my car is a bugger to keep tied down on it. - now then, where will I find an independant Rolling road operator with a calibrated road??
Regarding the Detonation itself, please tell me out of interest, will a rolling road session pick this up then, if the symptoms are not readily identified?

Thanks for the update Inigo.
BTW, what are your experiences with the Revo code? would you recommend it to others??

Chill maybe?
None of us here have any axe to grind against one tuner or another and I'm sure we'll all say that ours is best. Lets not let it turn into some kind of daft argument shall we?

Re: APR MTM GIAC AMS Chip Shootout Info
Excuse the fact this is coming in scraps - im posting in between phone calls here
As far as whether or not a chip (or Revo) upgrade makes a noticeable difference....Jesus christ YES.
I know lots of you boys have the really big toys to play with but bear with me here. A standard S3 can actually feel quite flat in the higher gears at decent road speeds. The new software means I have to make fewer gearchanges and have sackfulls of torque in higher gears which means it pulls like a beast from low down.
It also revs far stronger to the redline and performance in 5th/6th on the motorway (or at motorway speeds ) has been utterly transformed As I think many people have mentioned, 70-100+ in 6th is amazing and slotting 5th for the same acceleration run is plain WRONG. Car's aren't meant to accelerate that hard with that much speed under their belt In 5th and 6th you literally get picked up and blown down the road by the boost. Its utterly addictive and miles away from the performance of a standard S3. I remember the first time I switched back to stock mode I thought my car was knackered Couldn't believe how slow it was
Anyone doubting the real world difference between a standard S3 and a Revo'd S3 (I expect this applies to many other chips too) should go try one in both modes. That's all it takes. In the real world, back to back, my Revo'd S3 will eat a standard S3 alive. There really is that much difference. Any time, any gear, anywhere
And Revo IS faster and smoother than APR also. For the first time ever, i found myself mildly scared by the amount of thrust my car was generating. It was a very narrow road and I nailed it from 40-90. In fourth I love the feeling of the seat swelling into your back and surging you down the road. This was special
Its all good and yes I do recommend it.

Indeed Thorney, ultimate respect for all tuners and people involved
Hey Inigo, I think you will find that is what I've quoted you as saying - in any case good to hear you don't have any continuing problems.
SiTa, I can see you are getting the wrong end of the stick mate. If you look at my posts there are quotes like "indeed if there is a problem with detonation" - I, like yourself, don't like slagging off of any guys product, and that is not what this thread seems to be about. It is about trying to get the facts behind concerns and issues some of us (including me) have regards this type of upgrade.
I do apologise if I have read "detonation" out of context in these posts, but they were there to be read, and they did say "detonation". If you don't ask........
So now we know, from two sources - Inigo & SiTaS3 that their Revo S3 upgrades do not suffer from detonation, which is a good thing, isn't it?
Don't you see that the harm had already been done to Revo in a small way, before this post even started? Now the facts are coming out surely it's a good thing?

True. I appreciate the views expressed by all parties. RS246 is dedicated to providing techincally valid information. I will discuss this with Revo and see what their opinion is to posting on this board. Some people will not see the advantage of this as it may be construed as being biased, but for those that know the knowledgable tuners this will be a great benefit, as they show their worth in technically accurate responses.

Re: APR MTM GIAC AMS Chip Shootout Info
There appears to be quite a few people running REVO remaps on the TT-Forum, and I believe there was a meet this weekend, and a few have the trial software isntalled (5 hour trial), so the truth will come out I'm sure. So far no reports of anything untoward, so that leaves in reality, only Inigo (as Ben Jacks had a faulty car)...
PS this has been a good thread, made for a busy Sunday night in front of the computer with the old ball and chain nagging! The only not good thing in my opinion is that anyone reading this thread will think that REVO has DET problems, when the facts dont really point to that IMO - REVO are the only tuner to offer timing advancement specific to your fuel octane - I wonder is that because they have the technology and the others cant do it, or do the others choose not to?

Re: APR MTM GIAC AMS Chip Shootout Info
Hey Dunc, other way round. People who previously thought that detonation problems existed thru lack of RR setup are now aware that this is not the case, thanks to the input of the three amigos stating that detonation, although mentioned, was probably not occuring (BTW did Mo-S3 get any idea what his problem was?)
If you ask me, it's a result Revo works, it's good value for money with no drawbacks due to lack of RR -

Re: APR MTM GIAC AMS Chip Shootout Info
Im another S3 convert to Revo. Nothing out of the unusual, and all huge grins!
i am very keen to get a rolling road to see what figures the car produces in Standard chipped, and high boost mode.
G-force will have me back to test and try and solve the haldex shifting power issue, before the next Audi rolling road event.
Same as inigo , High boost really makes you sit up and take note! and keep hold of that steering wheel! It just goes and goes!

Good to hear it Paul/S3 guys - probably gonna go this route now for Lindsay's S3 - feeling more confident about it being a cost effective solution
