@all: the 50HP difference is about 1 hour spent on the dyno to fine tune it ;)

Can anybody answer this question? Has anybody on here maxed out a standard RS4 on an autobahn, and if so what speed was reached.
Sept issue of Evo had an Aplina B3 with less brake horse than a standard B5 hitting 180 mph+

:o nice 8) I will need to arrange a date to fine tune mine 8)

@jaytip, I had mine at 188 MPH with an MRC map and millteck exhaust if that helps ... it was around 460 bhp.

Because it will get close enough to 200MPH without putting huge stresses on the engine & without bonkers modifications.

As MRC state, to get to the heady heights of 500+BHP & 200+MPH in a B5, you'd need to spend a fortune & would still be deviating heavily from having the car as a daily runner as the engines longevity would be heavily comprimised.

Example, my B7 RS4 reached 172MPH (timing beam) in 5th gear within a 1.8mile distance. It was just about to hit the redline in 5th at this speed, so i still had an entire very long 6th gear before the car would max out. Was surprised at just how long a gear 5th is. I've no idea what the ultimate VMAX would be, but with the entire ratio of 6th to go, i'd be sure the max would not be a million miles away from 200MPH & yet only a re-map & cat-back by way of modifications.

Paul, my S4 running an RS4 engine and 530 BHP is being used daily and is an awesome car to drive daily apart from the fuel consumption (where B7 people have nothing to be jealous of) aspect. I've even ran it in 40 degree weather and the performance is just stunning. Oh and racing 100 BHP bikes on the Autobahn is also a lot of fun when you're leaving them in the dust. And that's something a B7 RS4 just won't do ;)

What is the max that anyone has had out of B7?? I am assuming just because it has a longer 6th gear does not mean it will have the power to battle the forces ???

I have had mine at 171mph, previous owner managed 185mph in France, owner before that was clocked at 197mph on timing equipment at Bruntingthorpe!!! (I have been told).
Going to Germany soon, I'll let you know.

B5 RS4? What kind of power does it have? I can see 185 no problem, I had 188 with a chip and exhaust, but to get more than that you need to raise the RPM past 7200, (unless you put in a longer 6th gear) and with normal power bruntingthorpe is far too short for that kind of speed, I've tried it!! :P

Agree the 197 is a tad optimistic. Problem with the B5's (& probably B7's) is the aerodynamics. With the B5 at Vmax in 2003, around 540bhp, standard ratios, and without the NOS, we only got 182mph with almost no headwind.

Max we got on the road going to the 'ring in 2002 was about 194mph on the speedo with 19' wheels and that was the Sportec RS460 conversion. You need some BIG power to get any decent top speeds out of these 'mobile barn doors' unless you get a 3 mile straight run. Very expensive but good fun trying though :beerchug:

Andiroo, I've seen a number of your posts on here! Are you back??? No audi I guess tho?!?

Looks like your still the quickest RS4 B5 at brunters then, I only managed 180 there a few months back!

Got a Q7 now :boohoo: - 934 gone, 996 Cup gone, just being sensible for a change whilst we concentrate on property :D

Mitch reckoned we needed huge torque to get us up to the 182, and using the ceramic pistons and manifolds and the water injection helped. But even with the NOS giving an added 75bhp we reckoned the gearing would be maxed out so we didn't bother trying. Mitch tried the diesel box in his B5 one time, with a suggested top speed of 212mph, but alas he didn't have the power and got a 170 I think :(

Have to admit the B5 was a hoot, all she missed was a bit of decent mapping (AMD failed but Mitch almost got there) and maybe a FMIC instead of the larger Sportec ones. If I could do it all again, with the money I spent, with the guys available to you now, she would be an absolute monster - she was on trackdays anyway but we just couldn't get the setup for the top speed runs. Hindsight eh?

Cheers,
Andiroo.

Thats a very sensible move after viewing your history!!! :P

Definatly, there is so much more available to us nowadays, but you where defiantly at the front edge when you where modding you car ...

I don't think with my diesel gear I have enough power to make use of it at brunters yet, but I do hope to crack that 200 in Germany, then I can waste, I mean spend my money on another project :P
