Re: Brakes or suspension?
To my mind Brembo ARE the best ones simply for the fact that they have the experience and so many people would rather buy re-branded versions of their products than build their own - flattery? However this is not to say that others aren't equally well respected. Alcon for example are seen as excellent stoppers in the Scooby world although Tarox are slated by the Evo mob.
I was assuming that Sportecs are Brembo branded (think Andy mentioned it sometime) but will admit to not being sure. I agreed with Bushy I reckon Porsche ones are simply marked up for the name and from what we seem to hear about Movits paint finish maybe them too?
I do appear to have a unique set of Brembos on mine with the previous owner having them re-anodised cos they weren't good enough just wished he'd had them done in red not boring black.

Re: Brakes or suspension?
Thorney I reckon you have hit the nail on the head.
I think instead of the nice high gloss paint finish that the Porshe owners expect we prefer anodised then painted as it will last longer.
Our cars must generate more heat than the Porshe cars due to our wieght difference

Well cant you get Movits and do somethign to protect the paint?
I guess the S3 is about 400-500 Kilos lighter than the RS4? Or is that rubbish?

Re: Brakes or suspension?
Anodising in Red is difficult (apparently).
I'm under the impression (and I have nothing concrete to back this up) that Porsche designed the calipers for their cars and Brembo manufactured them up until the latest composite set-up and I think that Porsche are making their own now.
The leaders in the market place are probable AP. Wilwood/Alcon & Brembo also have a good rep although Tarox to come in for a lot of stick.
The Porsche brake thing is intersting 'cos I think it has more to do with 'if it's good enough to be fitted to a Porsche then it's good enough for my XXXXXXXX' school of thought. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Porsche calipers/discs but they are not necessarily the be all and end all of brake design.

Re: Brakes or suspension?
Probably depends on the vehicle, I used 40 groove Tarox on my old 80 Sport ( 950 kilos) and they were excellent compared to the standard . I must add that 239mms is small( no sniggering) and I've not tried other makes but the 239 Tarox were much better than the current 256 mms Audi. Horses for courses ?
Anodising is the answer, years on bikes ( pedal !!)has taught me anodised equipment lasts, easy to clean, virtually unaffected by dust and salt especially if cleaned off regularly.Use is slightly less arduous. Trouble is why should you pay that amount of money only to strip the new equipment down to anodise?
So .......what do I need on my S3 when I get it in a couple of weeks ???

Re: Brakes or suspension?
My experience is limited to AP on Scoobies. I found them superb and they resisted fade very well. Saying that the scooby is a fair bit lighter and although I don't know the rotor size comparison I guess they will be very similar. The Scoobies were huge...

Re: Brakes or suspension?
no - maybe due to my driving. However I'd say I was pressing on harder/longer/more frequently than when I took you out for a spin after fitting them - so, definite improvement. Just about to order some new greenstuffs for the front as I reckon Castle Coombe will finish the current pads off.

Re: Brakes or suspension?
Simon, out of interest, have you received any info from Bira in the States regarding the products they offer? Also, have you ordered anything from them? I was interested in this last year but didn't get any more info on prices etc.
actually no, but I have emailed them this afternoon to see what they have to say. I'll update this thread when I have some info.

Ok an update for you Dunc,
My brakes didn't fade, but upon inspecting them this afternoon to find out what the grinding noise is, basically the brakes are shagged. The discs have radial rings/grooves and the pads have cracked up, presumably due to the extreme temp and force. This is probably my own fault for not properly bedding the bleeders in, and then having to get them re-skimmed.
So, due to my work schedule involving me being in Sweden for a week, this means I miss Castle Coombe as I won't have time to properly bed in the new pads (and probably discs)
Maybe it is best altogether to buy the Movits...
