Julian, let's say you get a throttle cable car, good old throttle cable. if you wanted the same effect as the SB box, what could you do??? nothing apart from pressing the pedal more, right? that brings us to my point expressed higher up.
RE: Re: RE: If you were to re-mod your car, how would you do
Yes Mihnea - I totally agree: pressing the pedal further yields the same result as the trick that the SB plays on the ECU. I'm not disputing any of what you've said at all.Julian, let's say you get a throttle cable car, good old throttle cable. if you wanted the same effect as the SB box, what could you do??? nothing apart from pressing the pedal more, right? that brings us to my point expressed higher up.
It's purely a personal thing mate - I just like a fast attack/fast response on the throttle pedal .... more go for less press (at lower revs) ... you know me: I like to "experiment" ....
And considering your irrefutable code-cutting prowess I know this is something that's (probably?) quite easy for you to do - as I say: purely a matter of personal taste, that's all.
[p.s. we don't have throttle cables - so I guess that's the point of this: with a DBW car you CAN do this, whereas on a cable throttle car you just CAN'T!

[p.p.s - your 'new' bumper is waiting at Gregs

RE: Re: RE: If you were to re-mod your car, how would you do
but then if you fitted a VR6 thottle body and changed the ECU/and wireing loom and then you could loose the maf and proberbly have a diff mapping system that mite give you the type of throttle response that the SB gives but with a cable..at the end of the day its all down to what you want and how much money your willing to pay or invest in developing the best for your car..

who...you...?!S4TAN wrote: you know me: I like to "experiment" ....

well you can actually - you simply fit a throttle cam with a larger (or is it smaller?) diameter so that the cam makes less travel for your pedal actionS4TAN wrote:

Bit off topic,
However, there are folk who dont wish to re-map, for warrenty reasons, maybe the cost.
The sprint booster is a fairly cheap untraceable way of sharpening things up in the throttle dept.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: If you were to re-mod your car, how woul
Here's what I'd do for a stock S4, given the unlimited money. In this order:
1) Healthcheck.
2) 710Ns, TBB hard-pipe (APR bi-pipe), after-run pump mod.
3) RS4 suspension
4) DTS
5) H&R ARBs
6) 18" wheels. Since I'm doing "stealth", I've got MTM replicas.
7) New big brakes. I'm using ECS Tuning's Stage 4 front, and Stage 1 Rear kits - the fronts don't fit under 17"s.
APR's RS4 intercoolers, and an oil cooler.
9) Exhaust system - currently looking at de-cat'ed RS4 DPs with APR Stealth cat-back. If I find a bunch of money.
10) MRC Custom Remap.
11) Cosmetics - I really like the RS4 front bumper, and I'm contemplating getting one. The last owner of this car also switched out the colour-coded mirrors for the RS4 aluminium ones, and they do look pretty good with the Ming Blue, actually.
What is already done to the car? 2, 3, 6, 7, and the last part of 11. What's the order the rest happens in?
9 first - the current exhaust has rust issues. Then then entire underside is getting a waxoyl treatment. This will be followed by 4 and 5, at the same time, and then 1, 8, 10 in a visit to MRC, then 11.
Then I discover a large amount of money hidden in somewhere, and buy a second S4, to play with VEMS and water injection on K04/RS6 hybrid turbos

ABSOLUTE KEY HERE IS...
***1. Sell the car buy an RS4***
2. Remap
3. Do ARBs
4. Maybe Suspension
But sadly most cant
, so my list would be as follows
1. DTS
2. Short shifter
3. Change downpipes (RS4 gutted/milteks)
4. Remap
5. H&R ARBs
6. Coilovers
7. Brakes - wait for 2nd hand set of porche 4-pots
When turbos go bang...
1. K04's
2. Exhaust manifolds
3. Lower CR
4. Injectors & Pump
5. New clutch & Light Weight Fly wheel
6. Remap...
~410-440?
Later on...
7. FMIC
8. APR Bi-Pipe (Fix TBB issue)
9. 2001.5 Inlet Manifold (removes F-hose)
10. 3" downpipes, race cats & 2.5"+ dual catback
11. Remap
~500HP
Obviously before you do any of this you have a health check.
A good course to model is Dave's car... great results doing things moderately.

Yow. All these people upgrading brakes *late*. I was always taught brakes first, to ensure you can stop.

Yeah, me too Rik, thats why they are the next big ££££ on my list

RE: Re: RE: If you were to re-mod your car, how would you do
If you are driving at relatively legal speeds sensibly then upgrading the brakes is not a priority... only if you are tracking the car is it a necessity. I did mine as I was headed for silly power. I think upto 400HP and a sensible driver is okay on standard brakes - note I say okay, not good.

RE: Re: RE: If you were to re-mod your car, how would you do
Ah. I assume that everyone on the road is an idiot (including me), and try to behave accordingly. Occasionally I get this wrong, and actually need to use the brakes. I like to know they're in working order. See also the written off Daewoo from earlier this year, because the brakes <beep> sucked and the tyres had leaked enough air ot grip so much that they just slid. I crashed because I couldn't stop. That is not happening to my S4.
The S4 will be written off by being rear-ended by a truck while I'm stopping to avoid something else ...
