As set of discs and pads for an RS6 is normally around £1500 for the parts alone. And yes i do still think £1000 is a hell of a lot of money for a set of brakes....but then you have to have them so there is bugger all you can do about it bar really shop around.

sorry for the duplicated post....not sure what happened there! I was quoted £2200 to supply and fit cross drilled discs with pads by one garage....i nearly fell off my chair, so in the end i bought them from a guy on ebay who seems to sell a lot of these. Can't remember his name off hand but i can look it up af anyone is interested.

Tweaky, so you saved £1200 excluding fitting - I like it :)

Basically you are saying to shop around for prices on both standard and uprated parts. Then compare looks, durability and if uprated ones are required. Always hard to put a price on upgraded parts if you are not sure if you need them though......... ie £200 extra for better brakes when you are not sure if you will beable to tell the difference/need them....

Tweaky, where from?? Thats a very good price... Audi comically quoted me a parts price of £1550 for standard, £1750 for XD, add a couple of hundred quid for labour and thats nearly equivalent to the debt of a small nation!! VAG are about £1100 normal and £1300 XD.

If memory serves, you don't have any option other than OEM, and the OEM RS6 parts are Brembo discs and Pagid Pads.

My experience of cross drilled discs is of cracks radiating out from the holes and pads that wear more quickly. The cracks never caused a problem but when driving quickly I kept on seeing images of shattering discs in my head so for my own peace of mind I only use plain or grooved discs on my cars now.
Plain or grooved discs are what you'll find on the majority of race cars, not cross drilled. If it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.
On the other hand there's an ebay shop based in my home town of Doncaster that currently has a set of new cross-drilled front discs at a buy-it-now price of £390, if that's what you decide on.

You can get the discs from VAG parts for under £1000. I got drilled ones front and back. I use Red stuff ceramic pads. I have had no problems. Any garage can fit them (i.e £20 per hour labour versus £100 in an Audi franchise).
