Thanks Carl,

that makes three of us, still not enough but I´m not in a hurry.

About the carbon fiber hood, I´m trying Fiber Images from the states, which seems to be the highest quality carbon fiber parts but it is almost impossible to reach anyone there. They are just not interested to sell to Europe I suppose. I did so many phone calls, faxes and emails but nothing. But I´ll keep trying!

Stupid question: is the 3,000 EUR target price for a pair or a single intercooler? :)

I found the Sportec IC's gave me an extra 15bhp + 22nM on the RS460 conversion without any further mods + they looked the bollox.

To get the maximum benefit out of these (ie over 500bhp) you will need to uprate fuelling and also replace the limited stock MAF to either dual MAF like the RS6 or go Motec or equivalent. If you go this route then the FMIC is even more efficient to the tune of 60%!!!

Re the carbon hood, stick to the UK. We have the biggest concentration of autoclaves in the world which drags prices down considerably.

Try C&B Aerodynamics +44 1202 661707. I spoke to them about some prototype work last year and they were really interested in helping out, plus their work seems to have an excellant quality finish with no cross strands (2x2 or 2x4 weave) or air pockets.

I have been looking into this myself only one I found listed was from a company in the states for the S4. I still haven't been converted into having the engine chipped or tweeked for more power but would certainly like to loose some of the weight over the front end, did they give you any estimate on price Andy? Presume they also needed your bonnet for the pattern etc?
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

Yes mate they would need a bonnet from somewhere. The initial expense is for the tooling, which these guys would charge you for - best to do a deal in numbers to make it work. I reckon 5 of you doing a deal together and sharing the cost of the tooling would get the bollox-looking twin skin (unless you pin it on all 4 corners) for around GBP850 each? Single skin a bit less but not as nice IMO.

Andiroo,

I am also thinking about the RS460 conversion. I already have Stage 1 from them and I am perfectly happy.
Their Stage 2 (RS460) does not include the intercooler setup... you just bought and installed the new intercoolers after performing the RS460 upgrade and found that you get those performance improvements?

Are you happy with the setup that you already have? Is everything running smoothly?
Is SPORTEC's exhaust system loud? (i mean, is it much louder than the stock?)

Also, what did you do with the 2 stock turbos? If you sold them, what is the going rate for those? Mine have done 43,000 KM (have installed SPORTEC stage1 at about 25,000KM)

What oil do you use on the car? I currently use CASTROL RS 10W-60...

Any other experiences you want to share? :)

Thanks and sorry for bombing you with so many questions :)

I got Sportec to ship the intercoolers to AmD who fitted them then put it on the rolling Road.

Do not have the car now, but when I did it was still too slow - so went for hybrid turbos etc etc - 560bhp @7600rpm without the NOS

Is SPORTEC's exhaust system loud? (i mean, is it much louder than the stock?)

No the Sportec system is quieter than the Milltek - PhilT has my Sportec exhaust now and he prefers it to the Milltek.

Also, what did you do with the 2 stock turbos?

My stock turbos were modified into hybrids, utlising Mitsubishi Grp A compressor wheels and housings - then gas flowed.

What oil do you use on the car? I currently use CASTROL RS 10W-60...

YUP :D

You don't want to know my friend

Hybrid turbos... that sounds scary :D
Did you have to modify the ECU software after installing those "evil" turbines?

In retrospect, would you do the hybrid turbo modification again? (how much would that cost, and who does it?)

Thanks! By the way, you sound like you don't have your car anymore... did you sell it or are you just waiting on some other upgrades to be installed :)

Yes the ECU had some intense modification initially from AMD and then when they reached their best effort it was handed over to Mitch at Revo for a more bespoke tweak. At one point we reached 18degrees of advance timing , which was achieved with the ceramic pistons and 102 Octane high oxygen race fuel.

To be honest, if I had to do it all again, it would be different. Dialynx would produce me a 8400rpm 750bhp (at least) motor for half of my overall tuning spend. This would include tougher crank, different profile camshafts, Garret GT29R roller bearing turbos (a hybrid between the 28 and the 30) mounted on top, front mounted intercooler, and porsche radiators where the intercoolers used to be. All this would run perfectly on Motec or equivalent - the RS4 MAF setup is always a compromise when tuning.

You would then have the option of sequential gearbox, carbon fibre driveshafts etc etc if you wanted to be silly

Unfortunately I do not have the car any more due to serious business problems - but hey ho, you can't keep a good guy down for long

I´m waiting for my carbon fiber hood by the end of this month. It´s from Fiber Images (USA), they have 20 years experience with producing carbon fiber hoods. I´ve been searching for the best carbon fiber hood for a long time and Fiber Images is the right choice.

I´ll post some pictures when I get the hood.
