I didn't say it was easy but IMHO you will most certainly reduce the lifespan of your brakes (OEM or upgrade, doesn't matter) if you dont - your pads will glaze on lap 1, and be bouncing off your rotors on lap 4 with the excessive heat - this unfortunately is irrespective of the fluid you use

Can anyone recommend a supplier of the Castrol SRF or other brands mentioned above? Preferably internet based suppliers.

Cheers

Dot 5.1 in Dunc's, Hopsta's and my own Porsche set ups. Expensive option tho, which was masked in original group buy price, but was over £50 when i had brakes refitted to current S3

DOT 5 IIRC is silicone. Once used can never change back. Its not a matter of flushing it out.

I'm having my new disc/pads fitted next Wednesday.
(B5 S4 with grooved OEM discs and EBC redstuff pads).
Which brake fluid should I use? and why?

So, how are the new pads then?

I am very pleased so far – well anything is better than the warped disks I had on before!

When it is cold it feels as if the pedal is on the soft side, with a lack of bite, but it will still stop efficiently with a bit more weight on the pedal. Something I’m not short of.
I found the greenstuff will warm up quite quickly at local traffic speed, but the redstuff takes a lot longer to really get that bite you want when you are pressing on – a couple of big stops really helps it.
Once they are warm though, they bite well, you can feel the grooves doing their bit and takes off speed rapidly.

I haven’t really had chance to get them hot though on a long country drive – lots of twisty B roads - the most I’ve driven is about 5-10 minutes with them how I like. I will report back after the weekend.

One last word, well maybe a couple, go to Richard Grimes . I met him at Ken’s BBQ when we discussed my situation.
He runs his company in his spare time and is an ex Audi tech of ten years experience.
All I can say is he is very knowledgeable and can strip an engine and rebuild it quicker than it takes a team of four to remount it . He makes a lovely cup of coffee too.
His labour rates are so cheap that it is silly and he told me he will give RS246 members a 10% discount off list prices.
I can’t recommend him enough if you can get down to Essex.
