Boot release (no button on the F/L)

Was this an internal button? Was it just for the saloon?

I presume Dan meant that there is no button where the key goes, but is a 'feather' touch button under the handle at the top of the reg plate.

Thanks for all the contributions, we are all officially certified S4 interior Audi heads. Congratulations

So if anyone wants to upgrade their 1998MY get yourself to the scap yard. I'm off there soon to get the air vent trim but that's it after that. I'm a big enough head as it is.

I really should stop now, but I'm a self confessed

I noticed that in Bushy's RS4 the dials on the heater vents (the ones that alter the amount of air you get through) were actually illuminated.

Perhaps get a set of those, they looked awesome.

I should get out more

I've got those as well

I got all my parts here. They are in Yorkshire but have just about any spare you need. I can sell you a HIVAC unit (without the heated seat switches though but modified by Dan(Toasty) for lighting).

PM me if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to help.

One difference that has not been mentioned is the presence or otherwise of a carbon fibre gear surround. At the base of my changer, the panel leading up to the ashtray is CF, whereas on other models and the photos above it seems to be plain black plastic... (2000mdl year, digi clock, ESP and illuminated vents!)

David,

I can't beleive you've restarted this, you know I'll always have the last say

The courtesy light arrangement is different in face lifted cars too, much bigger and hangs down slightly lower in the faclifted models.

Oh, and there is a small cover on the facelift cars that covers the battery and the brakefluid reservior.

David,
Oh, and there is a small cover on the facelift cars that covers the battery and the brakefluid reservior.

How small? The two early model S4s I've seen (every S4 is early compared to mine), i.e. Joshie,s and DJG's had the whole top area where the battery, ECU and reservoir are exposed, whereas mine is completely covered by a plastic strip, with an extra 'sliding door' to cover the battery.

That's the bit I mean.

Ok, it's not that small, but it is small compared to the car generally

I think it is a nice touch really makes the engine look more finished.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that when sitting in the drivers seat you can see under the bonnet lip that hides the wipers and actually see the lid on the brake fluid reservoir.

Perhaps the SMALL cover on the facelift models prevents this?

Well, mine too has the battery cover, but what about the carbon fibre - is this a facelift feature too (i ask as Joules's S4 has the facelift dash and digi clock, but no ESP or carbon gaitor surround)

If think the carbon fibre inlay was a no cost option.
Mine has it (look in Gallery)
